Chapter 8

We were hiking up the smokey mountains and I swore I was going to die.  I wasn't a vampire, I get tired.  “You okay?  Is Ray getting heavy?”  Klaus asked Stefan.  “No its fine.”  Stefan said.  “Are you sure about that? We’ve been walking for some time now.” Klaus said an I sighed before Stefan could answer.  “Klaus?”  I said softly.  “Oh she talks! You're not giving me the silent treatment anymore?”  He asked and I ignored him.  “Im not a vampire.  Please give me a piggy back ride up the rest of the mountain before I pass out.”  I groaned and he looked at me with a smirk.  “Get on.”  He said leaning down and I smiled as I jumped onto his back.

After another 10 minute walk we found the werewolves we were looking for.  I jumped down off of Klaus’ back and Stefan dumped Ray on the floor.  Everyone looked up to see us and soon a girl went running towards Ray crying out his name.  “Who are you?”  She asked as and I smiled softly.  “The important question is, who am I.” Klaus answered.  “Please forgive the intrusion.  My name is Klaus. “  And the women and man who were kneeling next to Ray slowly stood up. “You're the hybrid.”  The women said backing away slowly.  “You've heard of me.  Fantastic.”

Klaus sat down on a log, and I sat down beside him.  “Its fascinating really.  A werewolf who isn't a beholden to the moon and a vampire who doesn't burn in the sun.  A true hybrid.”  Suddenly a loud gasp came from Ray who was laying on the ground.  “Excellent timing Ray! Very dramatic”  Klaus said calmly as Ray began to toss and turn on the floor.  “Whats happening to me?”  Ray asked.  Klaus looked over at Stefan which made Stefan reply with a nod, knowing exactly what he had to do.  “ARE ANY OF YOU HUMAN?”  Stefan asked as he stood up and looked around the pack.  “Your friend here needs human blood to complete his transition into a vampire.  If he doesn't get it, he will die.”  Klaus had told me when we started this trip that he wouldn't let anyone feed on me and I wondered why he cared about that.  I mean he's Klaus? I cant imagine him doing anything nice.  “Doesn't take much! Just a sip.”  Klaus sung.  “Anyone?  A girlfriend, a boyfriend along for the ride?” Klaus asked as he stood up.  I could tell he was listening for the drum of a human heart beat.  He spun around to see a blonde man.  “You.” Klaus chose as he bit into the blonde mans arm and he screamed out in pain. Stefan zoomed over to him and pushed him to the ground while the crazy lady who first announced that she new Klaus was the hybrid, went to fight him.   “Its the new order sweetheart.  You either join us or you die.” Klaus said with a grip on her.  The women looked over at me.  “How can you be around such a sick man and let this happen.  You're a disgrace and pathetic.”  She spat at me and looked up at Klaus.  “I’d rather die than become a vampire.” She said and I stood up and walked towards her.  “And explain why I'm so pathetic.”  I said and she looked at me.  “I knew your mother. A huge disappointment she was, she was a vile person nobody ever liked her, seemed you turned out just like her, Rosalie.”  She knew my name.  “How dare you.”  I spat as I grabbed her hair pulling her out of Klaus’ grip and knocking her to the ground.  Her neck landed on a sharp rock and I watched the blood slowly poor out of her head.  I turned to look at Klaus.  “Oops.”  I said with a shrug.

I walked back towards Klaus he was sitting beside Ray.  “Somethings wrong.”  He said and I raised an eyebrow.  “What do you mean?”  I asked confused.  “I mean somethings wrong.”  Klaus growled angry and confused.  “Klaus can I have the keys.  I wanna go back to the car.  I’ll wait there I'm not feeling great.”  I said softly and he rolled his eyes throwing me the keys. “Don't think about driving off.”  He called after me.

“We’ve got about a mile left.”  I heard a familiar voice say and i ran towards it.  “What in the world are you doing here!”  I spat angrily.  “Rose.”  Elena whispered as she ran towards me and engulfed me in a hug.  “Oh my god Elena are you fucking insane? Do you have any idea what could happen? Why the hell did you bring her here?”  I asked pointing between Damon and Alaric.  Damon held his arms in defence.  “I didn't even know she was coming until Ric told me.”  I frowned.  “But you didn't try and stop her!”  I sighed as I walked back and forth.  “Oh god Elena, you need to go.  Klaus has just tried to make hybrids and they're not working because you're not dead.  If he finds you here, he kills you.  You have to leave. Now.”  I ordered with wide eyes.  “No.  Not until both you and Stefan are in the car with us on the way home.”  I shook my head. “Stefan is not the same anymore Elena! He answers to Klaus!  Elena go home.”  Suddenly Ray came towards us.  “Ray.”  I whispered.  “Stay where you are.” Alaric said pointing his arrow towards Ray. “Guys these woods are infested with an entire pack.  Go back now.  I can handle Ray.”  Elena shook her head, “No not without you.”  She said as tears sprung to her eyes.  “Look Elena I'm kinda done living in your shadow.  Everything is about you now, and at least I don't have to constantly be compared to you.  Its not right for me to be compared to my little sister.  And I only realised today that Klaus wasn't comparing me to you and you may think he's evil but you're wrong.” Klaus just didn't know what to do.  I think he was just lost.  “Damon get her out of here and if you ever, ever come and try and find us again, I’ll have to tell Klaus.”  I said honestly.  It felt weird to get that off my chest.  I know Elena was my sister but I almost felt tired of being her sister.  Everything, ever since we were little was about Elena.  Jeremy and I were neglected while it was all about Elena.  “I mean if it wasn't for you, our parents wouldn't be dead.”  I deadpanned as i watched tears fall from her eyes and Damon and Alaric pulling her away.  

I turned back to Ray.  “Ray I can make you feel better.”  I said softly and he looked and me with sad eyes.  “How?”  He asked.  “Follow me.”  I said leading him back to Klaus but before he could I felt him bite into my shoulder and i began to scream in pain.  “KLAUS!”  I cried as Ray sped away.  I ran up the small hill and saw Klaus.  He sped towards me.  “What happened?”  He asked panicked.  “Ray bit me.”  I cried as I tried to pull off my t-shirt.  Just as Klaus was going to bite into his wrist to feed me his blood knowing that I was human and wouldn't heal he stopped moving.  “Its healing.”  I touched my shoulder.  “What do you mean its healing?”  I asked confused. “Im not a vampire?  Im not a werewolf?”  I cried.
