Sean POV
In Sean's house
"This Wang Yibo... his character is kinda good, and not quite what I expected..." I murmured while depositing my things on the sofa and sighed.
"Who is Wang Yibo, my dearest?" asked my mother appearing from behind me and giving me a plate of fruits.
"Mum, don't be like that," I said.
"Like what?" she asked.
"Like... just appearing behind me, it gives me a fright sometimes," I explained.
She raised an eyebrow.
"What, do you dislike your own mother now?" she said playfully.
"No, Mum," I said, chuckling. "I'm just explaining because I don't wanna get scared by you again, thank you for the fruits though."
"Alright, my son. Now tell me, who is this Wang Yibo?" she repeated.
"Well... my last shoot was at an art expedition venue... and I uhh kinda got lost in my thoughts and I kinda bumped into a rich boss who was carrying an extremely expensive painting," I said, laughing nervously.
"So that boss you're talking about is Wang Yibo?" Mum asked.
"Yes, yes. Now let me continue." I said, shushing her.
"Quickly, quickly. You know how eager I am at things like this," she said with a grin as sly as a fox. "You must provide all the details, you hear?"
"Fine, fine," I said as I tsked her. "Well, of course, you know Dad, he would never agree to pay off my debts, and for some reason, I told him I would pay him back slowly when I knew it wasn't possible."
"Ah! That Wang Yibo~" she teased me like a child again.
I pouted. "Mum!" I said. "Anyways, continuing... his secretary came to me offering a contract, in replacement for the money that needs to be returned."
"A contract?! What sort of contract?!" my mum exclaimed.
"Umm... that contract states that..." I mumbled.
"A contract that states what?" Mum asked urgently.
"The contract states that I need to follow Wang Yibo, my new boss, for two months, and I don't need to pay the money back," I elaborated.
"TWO MONTHS?!" my mum shouted.
"Mum, calm down. Well, you know how I am, I really don't have that money, so obviously, I agreed. But now, when I've had time to think, I'm wondering how valuable I am to Yibo that he actually wants me to just follow him instead of compensation of thirty-three thousand yuan. But it's kinda late now I guess. I have already signed the contract."
"Thirty-three thousand yuan?! Oh my lord!" my mum sighed, fanning herself.
"Yep, just like that," I concluded.
Suddenly, she smiled again. "Haha, I understand now."
My mother laughed and ruffled my hair, with a twinkle in her eye that told me straight away that she knew what was going to happen but she just wanted to hide it from me just to spite me and let me explore my life myself.
"Mum!" I said crossly. "I know that look! Tell me what's on your mind, Mum."
She just stood up from the sofa and looked at me and winked conspiratorially. "It's a secret!" she whispered in my ear. "I'm going to cook dinner, you better rest first and take a shower while you're at it!"
I stared after her, dumbfounded. Secret? Seriously?
"Mum!" I called after her. "Tell me, please! How can something as trivial as this be a secret?!"
"Don't waste your breath asking me!" she called back. And I can swear that I heard, instead of seen, the smirk on her lips. "I will never tell you. Go and take your shower now. Dinner will be served soon!"
"Fine... I'll go now..." I replied, a sulk pulling on the corners of my lips.
I stood up and headed to my room, where my bed was waiting for me. All I needed was a hot, long bath, and I would be in a utopia.
Ten minutes later
I stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my waist. I ran another smaller towel on my hair, drying my hair. Clouds of water vapour spilt from the entrance of the bathroom as I dried my feet on the floor mat. I flung open the doors to my wardrobe and picked out a hoodie and some loose shorts. I stepped out and walked to the dining room. A strong and flavourful aroma filled my nose and I dashed to the kitchen, where Mother was stirring a pot of something.
Smiling, I said, "Mum, I just finished showering. Have you finished cooking? I'm starving." I peeked over her shoulder.
"Wait for a little longer, dear. The food will be ready soon," she said.
"Mum, what are we having for dinner today?" I inquired as I stood behind her to prepare to help her and watched as she took food out of the fridge and laid them out on the large table.
"Well... we're eating your favourite..." she said, suspense and tension thick in the air.
"Hotpot?" I guessed, hoping that I had to be right.
"Yes! We are indeed having a hotpot for dinner. Go and quickly prepare the eating utensils, okay, dear?"
"Yep!" I said excitedly as I hurried around the kitchen, finding the utensils, washing them, and finally laying them out on the table.
"Done! And Mum...," I said softly, after finishing everything."I won't be coming home for the next few days..."
"Not coming home? Why not? Where are you going?" she said, casting a worried glance at me.
"Mum, do you think I'm that kind of person?" I asked her.
"Yes, obviously yes," she said firmly and surely, tinged with a speck of perturbation. "Who else can it be if not you?"
"Mum-" I started.
"Stop!" she commanded.
"Okay fine... I'll just say it now I guess," I said uneasily, bracing for a harsh scolding on the do's and don't's while working. "I will be going on a business trip with my new boss in the next few days."
This time she turned her whole body towards me and said, "New boss?!"
"Yeah... you know who I'm talking about...." I said edgily. "Wang Yibo... yeah?"
She laughed and cackled out loud like how a witch would. I was surprised by a reaction like that. Why is she being so frivolous in a supposedly serious situation?
"Haha... I see what's going on now..." she said, giving me another one of those looks and a smirk that said that she wanted to withhold the information and suspicion she had.
"Mum!" I grumbled.
