Mrs Hedero was waiting for them. "Don't you want to get ready before going down. Your cloths are muy dirty.": She informed her. Mary hadn't realised that her cloths were stained with mud so, she went back into her room and searched for appropriate cloths to wear and changed into them. She walked right past the window, keeping her book on the bed, and strait in front of the vanity.

While combing her hair, Mary saw that her cheeks were red, and she did not look so pale (different, as she would say.) It was as if the old adorable Mary was returning. All the running and fresh air was really paying off.

Mary's guardians were shocked to look at her as she looked a lot brighter and surprisingly, happy. They all went down to have their dinner. Mary left the Hedero's astonished (again) as she ate two servings of spaghetti and kept talking all the time. It was the first time they were not irritated by Mary and thought she was sweet (or a child really.)

Mary was very tired that night, so she went to sleep quite a bit early.

The next morning, when she woke up, she felt so fresh and happy (more than she ever knew she could.)

"Today ought to be the beat day of my entire life" She sat up and began to think about the forest and how she craved to go inside it. She quickly got dressed and went to her aunt and uncle to have her breakfast.

"Tío lets go to have our breakfast. Let's go quick..."

They all went to the dining hall again but this time, to have their breakfast. The hall was set as a buffet now. Mary was the first to finish her meal and leave the hall. Mr and Mrs Hedero were left in bewilderment, so they asked her "Why are you in such a hurry, chica?"

Mary could not tell them the truth as she thought they would not let her go, so she said "I um... I just... want to go to the jardin."

"Oh, I'm muy sorry dear but tú can't go to the jardin today because we will be taking you to the Ipanema beach and come back by supper time." They replied.

Mary was very upset that day as she did not get to go in the forest, but she did have fun at the beach. For some reason, the sound of the waves was very satisfying to her (either because she never visited the beach before or she never really payed attention to what happened in her surroundings until now.) She learned how to make a sand castle from a bucket and spade. She also wanted to go swim, but Mr and Mrs Hedero did not let her.

The next few days passed by just the same way. They visited many places like the Sugarloaf Mountain where they hiked (not till the top though), Fernando de Noronha marine park and the Corcovado mountain where she saw the statue of Christ the Redeemer etc. Mrs Hedero also made her a sketch of the statue. Her favourite was Fernando de Noronha as she got to see so many marine animals that she had only read about.

The day to visit the forest finally came when Mrs Hedero had a stomach ache and they couldn't go out. Mary lied to the guard again and went to the forest, but this time she took her book along with her.

She was pretty exhilarated when she was about toenter the forest, which was covered in mist, just when she heard whimpers fromsomewhere around the corner.
