☀ ~ Something for the Young Adults...I guess

I'm making this primarily for the younger teens/older kids. It's a list of celebs (mainly singers and actors) that I believe are great role models for teens. I'm doing this after seeing something about Chloe Bailey and as much as this isn't HSMTMTS related, it is just as important as the show so...let's do this:

Chloe x Halle Bailey ~ Body Positivity/Female Black Representation

Okay, I said that I am making this chapter because of Chloe Bailey. So she released a very good song called Have Mercy with a music video in which she was showing skin and was twerking. Most people were uncomfortable and were asking why she was doing what she was doing and she said that it was because it was her body and she can do what she wanted. She's not wrong. She isn't a Marvel or Disney actor that has to maintain an image for little kids, so she can do whatever she pleases and if she wants to dance and express her sexuality, then she can. I'm not advocating for little girls to twerk and stuff but I'm advocating for little girls to be whoever they want to be without any limitations. Halle Bailey was getting attacked for being Black and portraying Ariel in the live action Disney's The Little Mermaid. That didn't stop her from continuing to go through and become the first Black actress to portray the character.

Joshua Bassett, Julia Lester, Joe Serafini, Frankie Rodriguez, & Larry Saperstein ~ LGBTQ representation in children's shows (HSMTMTS)

Now, three of the five actors don't play official LGBTQ characters in the show but all of them are queer actors in a big name children's show that has been critically acclaimed. Each actor has shown their pride in being a part of the community and each have different stories about their coming out, some in which many can relate to. I can relate most, weirdly, to Joshua's (I can make a chapter about that if you want). And it's important for more kids out there to see a queer character on TV and feel represented. And especially in Frankie's case where latino queer boys get to see someone who looks like them in a healthy, normal queer relationship.

Simu Liu & Olivia Rodrigo ~ major Asian representation

I chose these two specifically because of their impact in their respective industries. Simu starred in Shang-Chi, the MCU's first ever movie staring an Asian lead. Olivia is pop's largest star right now. I'm not Asian, but I understand how it feels to have someone look like you make it big. I saw a bunch of little Asian boys walking into the theaters and leaving it saying that they want to be Shang-Chi when they grow up. I've heard stories about girls who were blessed over the fact that there is an Asian-American (particularly a Filipina-American) singer/actress making it big and how it rarely happens. Olivia herself even believed that pop was only a white girl thing and she has proven time and time again this year that the statement is wrong. Both of them proved that Asian people in the industry can and will make it.
