As I continued down the sidewalk, the more my legs began to feel like they were about to fall off. I made a smooth turn to the right walking through the gate and up the pathway that led to my families front porch. I rummaged through my school bag feeling for the metal keys until I found them. I unlocked the door and pushed it open, my senses were met with the delicious scent of Moms cooking.
Footsteps pounded against the floor and the sound of them had been making their way to me. I was met with a warm embrace from my younger brother and sister, and the two of them with all their might brought me down to the floor. My younger brother rose to his feet and slammed one foot on my stomach with his other on the floor, encouraging our sister to do the same but this time on my chest.
Together they both shouted
"We have defeated the all mighty Mira!" And rose their arms up pointing at the ceiling.
"Welcome home, Mira" Mom came out of the kitchen and smiled.
"Thank you"
"Killian, Kat, get off of your sister."
"But mom! We defeated the almighty Mira!!" Killian cried out"I said get off your sister, she just got home and yet that's the way you greet her? How about I tell Elias you were being mean to Mira?" Mom looked directly at the two, knowing that using Elias would make them cower.
"Humph! Fine. But only because of Elias! We will get you next time Mira!" Killian scurried off, taking Kat with him.
"Thanks for the save Mom"
"Your welcome dear. How was your first day?"
Mom pulled a chair out under the counter and motioned me to sit, I did so and plopped my head into my arms on the marble countertop.
"It was great, oh! Mom you won't believe it when I tell you this!"
"Oh what is it honey?"
"I hung out with Evelyn today!" I gave my mother a big smile to express my excitement.
"Evelyn?"
"Yes! Evelyn!"
My mother hurried over in front of where I sat at the counter and clasped her hands over mine. My mother bursted in joy that she couldn't contain.
"Evelyn Mercias? She's here?"
"Yes!"
Mom cheered and smiled brightly.
"I can't believe this Mira, we are inviting her and her family over for dinner!" Mom picked up her phone from the counter and started scrolling through her contacts. "I'm going to give her parents our address. Now let's see if Lira's number still works." She clicked on Evelyns mothers contact and sent a message saying she'd like to have dinner with her family.
"Yes! They'll be over after your father gets off work! Leaving us with enough time!"
"Can I help with dinner?" I looked up at my mother and looked into her eyes
"Of course. Now go wash your hands, we have dinner to cook."
