Hide And Seek

I've lost the directions back home.
I can hear your screaming but it's sending me in circles.
I've spent my life searching for a way out of your mess.

The light doesn't shine through the darkest of nightmares,
And any dream without you is the worst I could have.
I'm stuck in the promises you made,
But I don't want to know how to move past them.
Promises don't mean shit if you can't follow through.
I can't get the scent of your disappointment off of my clothes,
It lingers and fills my head, holding my attention at gunpoint and keeping it hostage until I finally pass out after hours of trying to think about anything else.

Where's my blue-skied summer?
I've been living through your autumn for years,
And at this point I'd do anything for the warmth.
My bones can't take any more of this cold, soggy weather.
The flowers in our garden are dead, and you paved over the soil.
I never had scars big enough to impress you,
So you gave me some to hold onto for you.
I'm not extra skin, I can't handle the abuse.
I thought you were golden,
But it turns out I'm just colorblind.
