It took (Y/N) a while to adjust to not spending all of her days and all her time with her Dad. It hadn't taken Owen long to find a job doing something that used to be a simple hobby, a mechanic. And it wasn't half bad, he got to fix some pretty cool stuff some days, and considering he fixed everything from cars to tractors he got to see a lot. Not to mention the whole business had a family feel to it. As time went by they both fell into their own rhythm, (Y/N)'s birthday was roughly 2 weeks before school started, August 26th (A/N: I just picked that day randomly). They had never really done anything big for her birthday before, presents, cake, go somewhere special on occasion but considering they didn't really have many close friends. But since she had grown closer to the kids at her daycare they were actually going to do something this year.

"So, what do you wanna do for your birthday this year?" Owen asked one day once they had gotten home even though he already a pretty good idea.

"Can we have a party this year?" (Y/N) asked excitedly.

"If you want," Owen started but paused, "What are you doing?" Owen asked with a slight laugh after seeing her crawling around on the floor seemingly looking for something.

"Looking for one of my toys," (Y /N) replied simply.

"We've been home all of 10 minutes how did you lose something already?"

"I'm talented like that."

"Uh-huh," Owen said, sometimes it was interesting to watch her.

"Got it!" (Y/N) exclaimed happily holding up to the lost toy, which happened to be her Raptor one.

The sound of her standing up was quickly followed by a thump, he heard her laugh slightly hysterically and walked over to where she was laying on the floor and looked down at her and she tried to hide her laughter, she was failing miserably.

"Who put a coin in you?" Owen asked, normally she wasn't this hyper.

"We may have had pop today at daycare," (Y/N) said still trying not to laugh, normally pop didn't really affect her but he guessed it had been an exciting day.

Then she went silent and just stared up at him.

"I'm bored," She eventually said throwing her arms behind her head hitting his feet.

"I think you need to burn some energy," Owen said.

"Can we go to the lake?!" (Y/N) asked suddenly going quickly from her back to her hands and knees.

"Sure," Owen agreed, seeing her hyper always but him in a good mood even after a long day.

"Can I go in the lake?"

"Only if you change into your swimsuit."

She still had yet to learn to swim, with work he hadn't had much time this summer to teach her since people were trying to get things done and in the process breaking something on a machine or vehicle. He figured he'd do it that weekend since he didn't work weekends. He sat on shore while she splashed around finally burning some energy. It was leaving that was going to be a problem, she loved the water but he didn't have to worry about leaving for a while yet. He kept a close eye on her since he knew the lake had a drop-off fairly close to shore but she also knew not to go too far anyway.

"Fish!" (Y/N) suddenly shouted pointing slightly ahead of her near the dock.

"Leave the fish alone," Owen said from shore.

"I know."

Even with that said Owen didn't trust her, when she got hyper she didn't tend to think clearly so he walked down the dock until he was next to her. The water was only up to her hips but something under the water caught her eye she walked towards whatever it was and suddenly dropped deeper in the water so it was up to her chest.

"Hey, (Y/N) come back here," Owen said knowing she was close to the edge.

"Oh come on just a little further," (Y/N) begged.

"Once you can swim sure but not now."

"Then teach me."

"Not tonight, it's almost dark."

She took another step back, deeper into the water, now was not a good time for her rebel side to show. He knew she wouldn't actually go much further, she was testing him but that didn't stop him from worrying.

"(Y/N)."

"I know," (Y/N) said, realizing she had gone too far and gotten carried away.

She took a step back towards him but whatever ground she had been standing on suddenly dropped out from under her and with nothing to stand on she went under the surface.

"(Y/N)!"
