I remember my first day in St. James. The first day I arrived. The day my life changed forever.
I remember it was a bright day with clear blue skies. Back then I didn't know how uncommon such good weather is for St. James. It was as if the town tried to make a good first impression. So that we would decide to stay.
I think if my family, especially my parents, had known what would happen after moving to St. James, they would never have moved there with us. After what had happened to us...they would have run. We didn't need any more drama. We didn't need any more problems.
If we hadn't come, so many things wouldn't have happened.
I would have spent the summer at the beach in Florida and looked at all the tourists and made bets with Joel on who was going to have a sun burn and who was going to survive the summer heat (no one. Everyone always gets a sun burn and anyone who dares to go into the sun in August in Southern Florida, is an idiot).
I would not have gone to a Halloween party and get totally wasted (and what a mistake that was. Sometimes I feel like I can still feel the hangover from the next day).
I would not have driven a car into a tree (I didn't have a driver's license by the way. Still don't have it).
I would not have learned how to make things explode with a simple spell (you would be surprised how handy that is).
I would not have learned how to produce a truth tincture (also quite handy).
I would not have gotten a best friend who I could tell everything to while also wanting to throw them off a cliff.
I would not have learned how to get myself into a sugar induced coma.
I would not have had a date to my school's winter gala.
I would not have fallen in love.
And for sure, I wouldn't be lying here. Here in the dirt, with the rain drops crushing down on me. The water collected in puddles around me and I watched as it slowly turned red.
Blood. My blood.
Life is a strange little thing. Always so...unpredictable.
I saw my arm and the little silver bracelet on it. Any magic and spirit left in it had gone. It was the end.
I coughed. It hurt.
I was so tired.
I wanted to close my eyes.
Something told me I shouldn't do that.
Still...
