RACHEL - Despite claiming not to be a morning person, my brother managed to get up and ready in time for us to make it to the bus stop.
Two other people had already taken a space at the bus stop, waiting.
One girl stood at the front of the stop, seemingly lost in her own thoughts. A glimpse at her face told me she must have had Asian roots, and a big beige poncho almost swallowed her petite body. Her eyes were directed towards the sky, as if she was watching a plane.
One look later, I knew she wasn't. No plane. Apparently she was staring into the sky for no reason.
Daydreaming must be nice.
With some distance another girl waited. She had brown long hair, face hidden behind it, so I could not make out her features. She wore a white knee-length dress. Her hands were pulled into fists, as if she was struggling just standing there.
Joel immediately turned his attention back to his phone, chatting with the people he had met before. Apparently they were already discussing where to meet and who had which classes at what time. He had no time and no thought left for his surroundings.
I sighed but decided to take him as an example. I figuratively unpacked my social side and slowly walked closer to the brown-haired girl. I was already half-way there when suddenly daydreaming girl intercepted me and stepped in my way.
"She won't hear you," she whispered so quietly I had trouble understanding her.
"What?" I asked.
"She won't be able to hear you. They never do," she added, then stepped out of the way and went back to watching the nothingness in the sky. I looked back at the girl with the brown hair and wondered about what had been said.
It was then that I realized that she was not wearing any shoes and had bruises all over her legs. My first reaction was shock and I immediately wanted to help her but a small glimmer went through her body.
Oh...
I slowly stepped up to the daydreaming girl who had interrupted me. Maybe she knew the ghost? Everywhere I had lived before, ghosts usually kept away from people. Especially during the day.
"Who was she?" I asked quietly, hoping the girl would not ignore me. She didn't. She turned to me and shook her head slowly.
"I don't know. Usually the ghosts in this town stay away from the living. She is new. I think." She turned to look at the ghost but seemed unsure if the ghost was familiar or not. As if it was normal that you see a ghost like this at every bus stop.
"So you don't know her?" I asked. The girl shook her head.
"I don't know. We get many travelers here. Although she does remind me of this other girl at school-" Before she could continue, a red jeep I knew all too well parked in front of us.
