The past weeks has flown by. Samantha passed her exams with great grades. I am so proud of her. After the school year, Casper and Lara also left almost immediately. It took some time getting used to it, but we have agreed that they will be here at least one weekend a month. What also took some time getting used to is that Jace now lives with us. But we got used to that very quickly and I can't imagine our lives without him anymore. The first week my father and Samantha's mother also stayed with us. I'm really happy how that went. The relationship between Samantha and her mother keeps getting better. After that week there were really three of us and I've never felt so complete.

The new school year will start in a week. I am curious how that will be, because then Samantha will no longer be there as a student, but as a colleague. I'm so happy to just be able to see her all day and have her close to me. Samantha is really looking forward to it too. But before that, we first enjoy a few days in Rome. Today it's been a year since we met and we thought that was a very good reason for this city trip.

Today we have been in the center of Rome all day and now we hang out at the edge of the pool in the garden of our holiday home. To enjoy the weather, a glass of wine, each other and the view of a playing Jace. He has just been in the pool for a while and is now playing in the sandbox. So you can guess what our sand monster looks like now. "I'll grab something to drink inside. Can I bring you something?" I shake my head when Samantha asks. She then gives me a kiss and goes out of the pool. "Jace for you it is time ". I see Jace nodding at Samantha with a smile on his face. It's really time for him for a shower and then go to bed. I'm also going to get out of the pool to dry up a bit. "Mama, mama come and see what I found". Suddenly I hear Jace calling to me enthusiastically. At that moment Samantha walks outside again and I go and see what Jace has found. He hands me a box that is completely covered in sand. When I open the box I see a beautiful ring. "Sweetie you should lo.....". When I turn around to show the ring to Samantha, I am shocked. Samantha was right behind me. She has a big smile on her face and takes my hand. Then she kneels in front of me. "No, you're not going to do this." I can already feel my tears coming. "Sssh otherwise I don't know what I wanted to say". Samantha says, still with that big smile on her face. I can feel how nervous she is by her trembling hands. "Dear Skyler I don't really know where to start. I had a whole story in my head and I've practiced it a hundred times. But now I've completely forgotten it, but I'll try to make something of it anyway. Exactly one year ago you walked into my life. Your voice alone did a lot to me inside. From the very beginning it seems like we were meant for each other. You give me so much peace and a safe feeling. When I just see or hear then my heart starts beating faster.  Every time you look or touch me it's like there's an explosion in my body. An explosion of butterflies that seem to get bigger every time. You show me that life is beautiful. You make me feel every day how it feels that someone loves me and skyler i really love you so much. I really can't imagine one more day without. So with this I want to ask you. Will you please me become my wife?".
My tears are now flowing and Samantha has not kept it dry either. I pull her up and then give her a lovely kiss. After a while we put our foreheads together. I see a somewhat uncertain look at Samantha. "Um you haven't answered yet". I laugh when she says that. "Sorry I had to do something else first. Yes, I want nothing more than to be your wife". I get another lovely kiss. "Mommy did mama say yes?". We hear Jace say. We stop the kiss and then look at Jace. "Yes mama said yes". Jace gets a big smile on his face when Samantha says that. She takes the ring and puts it on my finger. I stare at it for a while. "It's really very beautiful sweetie." I say and give Samantha another kiss. "And now it is time for the order of the day again. It is now really time for my great helper to take a shower and then go to sleep". Jace gets up from the sandbox to go inside. "Mommy where is your ring?". He asks Samantha. "Mommy doesn't have a ring. Mommy won't get one until I marry Mama." Jace looks at me after Samantha has said that. "Mama when will mommy get the ring we bought last week?". Oops I didn't expect him to say that and couldn't stop him either. I glance at Samantha who is staring at me with wide eyes. I have a big smile on my face and then look back at Jace. "I think mommy will get it soon, but for you it's really time to get ready for bed now".

Jace was tired and fell asleep quickly. Samantha had gone downstairs a little earlier and is sitting on a bench outside. I walk towards her. Get on one knee in front of her and grab her hands. "Sorry there is no surprise, but I have something for you". I  take out the ring I bought for her. Samantha has a big smile on her face. "I thought it was a joke." I shake my head. "No, sweetie, it was definitely not a joke. You just went too fast for me." I say laughing. "Sorry". I shake my head. "I'm a lot less nervous now. I think I know for sure what your answer will be. I was afraid you might find it too soon, but luckily we have the same feeling. I don't know what that's with you. From the moment I looked you in the eye a year ago I already felt a connection. The first week together was so weird. It was like we've known each other for so long. I found out pretty quickly that you're the one for me. I've been stupid enough to fight my feelings for so long because I knew then that nothing could stop me from loving you. You gave me the light in a dark time. Every day is worth enjoying because I know you're there. Every day you make me smile and make me feel happy no matter how hard some days are. I know we'll get through those days because we have each other. I love you and I would really consider it an honor if you would be my wife. I don't really need to ask anymore, but I was planning to, so I'll do it anyway. Dear Samantha will you marry me?". We both have a big smile on our faces and the tears are visible again. "Well uhm let me think about it for a moment". I give Samantha a small nudge when she says that." Of course I want to marry you babe. I just feel a bit bad now that I got in the way of your proposal." I shake my head. "You really don't have to feel bad about that. I actually think it's beautiful. It just shows all the more that we feel the same for each other and want the same thing. Of course I already knew that, but getting the confirmation makes it even more beautiful". In the meantime I sat down next to her. "I love you". I say as I slide the ring on her finger. "I love you too".

This was (for now) the story of Skyler and Samantha. I found it hard to put an end to it. I'm not sure whether I'll add a few more chapters in the future, or maybe even a sequel. But for now it's done and I'll see what the future brings. I hope you have enjoyed the story.
