Samantha

I wake up in Skyler's office. Just as I slowly open my eyes, I see Skyler and the principal enter the office. "Did we wake you up?". Skyler asks me sweetly and I shake my head. I feel so guilty that I gave her a nosebleed, so I have to try hard not to burst into tears again. "How are you?". The principal asks me, after sitting down in a chair opposite me. "Well okay". He gives me an understanding nod. "And with you Skyler?". Skyler leaned against the desk and folded her arms. She shrugs. She then starts to walk back and forth. Once nervously runs her hand through her hair. "Sorry mister Damstra, but I want to be fired". I look at her with wide eyes. "No Sky don't do this. Have you gone mad?". I say shaking my head. Skyler joins me on the couch and grabs my hands. "I can't help it, Sammy". I still shake my head and I hear the principal cough once. "Skyler where is this suddenly coming from? Is it because of what happened today?". He asks calmly and Skyler gives him a nervous smile. "Yes and no. I am doing something that is not allowed. Actually you should fire me. Today it has become very clear to me that Samantha is above everything else". I see the principal nodding in understanding. "I can just pretend I don't know what you're talking about. I've seen Samantha change this school year. I mean that positively and I also know that you are the reason. At first I thought you were just good friends, but I've found out for a while that there's more going on. It's not because of how you behave at school, because there's really nothing to notice. If it's up to me, you can just keep working here, Skyler". I look at the principal with wide eyes and Skyler shakes her head. "I'm in a relationship with a student. You should fire me and not protect me." She says a bit surprised. "Is that what you want? Do you want me to fire you?" Skyler shakes her head again. "No, of course not, but I'm not giving up on my relationship. If I have to choose between Samantha and my job, that choice is made very quickly and easily." I don't even know what I'm hearing. My emotions are going in all directions. " Uhm Skyler can you open the door? I have to go to the bathroom." Skyler looks at me in surprise. "You'll be right back, right?" I give her a smile and then nod. Skyler gets up to unlock the door. "See you soon?". She asks softly as I stand next to her. "Yes yes I promise". I give her a kiss on the forehead and then walk out of the office.

In the bathroom I have some time to process everything a bit. I don't know what's happening today. First the news that my father will be released from prisson. Which brings back the memories and also the fear. Then Skyler who wants to be fired for choosing me. For me! No one has ever done anything like that for me. After fifteen minutes I quietly walk back to Skyler's office. "What are you doing here?" I ask Lara who I meet in the hallway. "I was on my way to you. We were allowed to leave earlier. Will you ride with Skyler or should I wait for you?". I shrug. "I'll discuss it with Sky in a moment. I've got a few things to say to you." Lara looks at me questioningly. "Not now. Later when the two of us are alone." I say with a smile and Lara nods that she understands. The two of us then walk on. "Wait here a minute. I think the principal is still inside." Lara looks surprised and then nods. I knock on the door and go back into the office. "Sky do you still need me? Otherwise I'll drive home with Lara. She's already finished class." I ask as soon as I get in and Skyler shakes her head. "Go home. Then you can relax a bit. I'm still busy here for a while". She walks over to me and gives me a kiss. I look at her in surprise for a moment and Skyler gives me a beautiful smile. "Don't worry, she's got my permission." I then the principal say and I look at him in surprise. "Skyler will catch up with you later. Now go home. I'd like to talk to you tomorrow at the beginning of the day." He says and I nod. "I'll go then. Don't you make it too late?". I  ask Skyler and she shakes her head. "I think I'll be busy for at least an hour." I nod. We give each other a quick kiss and then I rejoin Lara to drive home.

"How are you?". Lara asks as soon as we're in the car. "Very good actually". I say with a smile and Lara looks at me somewhat surprised. "Okay, I didn't expect that answer. What happened? Starting with that phone call." I sigh. "I was told that my father will be released from prisson on Friday." Lara nods. "I already heard about Skyler. He can't come near you, right?". I nod. "Indeed, but with him you never know. I don't want to think about it any further. At first it kept going through my head, but now I have something more important to do." I say with a smile on my face. Lara gives me a quick glance. "And that is?". she asks and looks back at the road. "I want to propose to Skyler". Lara suddenly slams on the brakes. "Lara watch out". I say smiling. Lara looks at me wide-eyed. "Look, you're standing still in the middle of the road." Lara looks a bit confused and starts the car again. She then parks the car in a parking space along the road. "Did I hear you right?" She says in surprise and I just nod with a smile on my face. "I didn't see this coming. Especially after what happened at school. Is it because you hit her?" She asks very carefully and I shake my head. "I should never have done that and I feel very guilty about it. For that I get the largest bouquet of roses you can imagine and cook for her tonight. Although I can never make it up complitly to her". Lara then in agreement. "Sorry, but I have to agree with you. It should never have happened." I nod. "I know and I'm really sorry." Lara gives me a smile. "I know that and Skyler knows that too. But come on tell me, what happened in the office that changed your mood so much?" Suddenly I get a smile on my face again. "I really expected that she would be very angry with me. Which would be completely justified. But instead she asked the principal to be fired." Lara looks at me wide-eyed. "What?". I give her a smile. "She wanted to be fired, because I am more important to her. But the principal allowed her to stay." "Serious?". I nod. "Yep. He said he had known for a while that something was going on, but I don't know how the conversation ended. I went to the bathroom. My emotions went in all directions, so I don't know what else they have discussed and whether or not Skyler continues to work. I'll hear about it tonight if all goes well. I hope she stays. I don't want to be the reason for her to stop working, which she enjoys doing." We chat some more and quickly stop by a few shops before heading home. The feeling I had last night and this morning is completely gone. Maybe I sensed I was going to get that call. Normally I'd still be upset about that, but Skyler makes everything look so much better.
