Never in a million years did I think I'd ever get here.
Standing up on the stage of the O2 arena in London, capacity of 20,000. Every single seat was filled.
I stood behind the mechanical backdrop, which would soon rise to reveal me and the guys to the 20,000 screaming fans. My hand gripped the solid microphone tightly; the purple stripe at the bottom seemed to glow in the dim lighting backstage.
"Roxie," a voice called from my right. I turned my head to see Niall bouncing on the balls of his feet, his bright blue eyes sparkling with excitement. "You ready?" He adjusted the strap of the electric guitar he had slung around his front and toyed with the knobs.
"No," I said, exhaling sharply. I heard the screams in the stadium intensify, which meant that the house lights had just gone down. "But I guess I have to be."
"You got this, love," said Louis on my left with a small smile. I could tell he was a little nervous, too. His brown hair was slicked back with too much gel. Harry, Zayn, and Liam were on the platform above us, waiting just as impatiently as we were to start the show.
The intro music kicked in, and I adjusted my earpiece just to have something to do with my other hand. The wall in front of me whirred loudly and began to rise, meaning it was time.
"Let's do this, boys."
The synthesized pop music blared and echoed in the massive space as Liam strutted out to center stage, singing the first few lines of "Up All Night," the very first song on our very first album; the perfect opener. I looked out at the crowd; thousands of screaming teenage girls had tears already streaming down their faces. The chorus came in, and I could hear the boys singing their hearts out along with me. Something inside me released as I sang the first notes, my nerves flying as far away as my sound reached. It felt amazing.
The song finished to a cacophony of cheers. "What is up, London!" Harry shouted into his mic. Loud cheers. "O2 Arena, how are we feeling tonight?" Even louder cheers.
"I'm sure you already know our names, but I'm Liam, that's Harry, Zayn, Louis, Niall, and Roxie!" Liam said as he pointed to each one of us, a giant grin on his face.
I waved to the crowd, drinking in the attention. I put my hand on my forehead to shield my eyes from the bright lights, trying to make eye contact with as many people as I could. From what I'd heard, a celebrity could make someone's whole life by just looking in their eyes, acknowledging their existence. It was such a small thing, so I always tried to do it as often as I could.
"Ladies and gents, you're in for a really awesome show tonight, so I hope you're ready to have the best time of your life!" Niall said as he threw his arms in the air, eliciting a deafening cheer. He cackled at the reaction, looking at me and shaking his head. "This is crazy," he mouthed.
"I know!" I said, bringing the mic away from my mouth so the crowd couldn't hear me.
"Alright guys, let's get this going!" said Zayn, pointing to Niall as he strummed the first few notes of the next song. And the next, and the next, and the next...
In the middle of "One Thing," I noticed a group of girls holding a sign that said, "Roxie, you're our favorite Rox-star." I laughed and gave them a thumbs-up, which nearly caused the girls to collapse. I chuckled to myself.
"You got yourself some fans?" asked Louis as he strutted over to me, his mic down by his side.
"Yeah, only those few girls, though. The rest are here to try and seduce you and the other guys."
