"Where did the golden couple learn how to steal a car?" Natasha asked teasingly. Leaning across the consul to look at Athena and Steve.

"Nazi Germany," Steve told her.

"Mm," Natasha hummed

"And we're borrowing," Athena piped up, "they'll get their car back."

"I'm sure they will, Athena," Nat laughed.

"And how exactly do you plan on doing that?" Steve asked teasingly

"I'll work something out," Athena shrugged. "Modern technology is wonderful like that."

Steve just shook his head fondly. "You definitely like modern technology more than me."

"You really are an old man," Nat laughed, "stuck in 1945."

"I'm ninety-five," Steve grumbled, "not dead."

"Maybe we could send you to one of those tech courses," Athena suggested poking fun at Steve.

"You could make some more friends," Nat suggested.

"Believe it or not, it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience." Steve sighed.

"You don't have to have shared life experience with someone to be their friend," Athena assured him

"Or, you just make something up," Nat suggested.

"What, like you?" Steve grumbled. Causing Athena to lean over and lightly hit his arm to warn him he was being mean.

"I don't know," Nat shrugged, "The truth is a matter of circumstances. It's not all things to all people all the time. And neither am I."

"That's a tough way to live," Steve said more sympathetically.

"It's a good way not to die, though." Nat shrugged.

"Trying not to die and living are two very different things," Athena told Nat. Not for the first time.

"You know, it's kind of hard to trust someone when you don't know who that someone really is." Steve told Nat. "but I get the feeling Athena knows more about you than I do."

"Yeah," Nat agreed, nodding. "Athena knows more than you." Nat shrugged unapologetically before carrying on. "Who do you want me to be?"

"How about a friend?" Steve requested softly, causing Nat to laugh.

"Well, there's a chance you might be in the wrong business, Rogers." Nat teased him.

Steve rolled his eyes fondly at one of his girlfriend's closest friends.
