"She will be fine four." christina says as I hold tris' limp hand in mine. I shake my head and place my hand under my chin to support it. "I don't know christina. She almost died." I sigh and look back at her. "What are they doing with david?"
She looks at me with a sad expression. "They said they will hold him until she wakes up. they want to use the truth serum." Her voice cracks as she speaks. I grab her hand and hold it. I move to sit on tris' hospital bed so she can sit down. She lays her head on the bed and sobs.
Tris is all christina has if uriah goes. They've been inseparable since they started at dauntless.
"Four if neither of them wake up I'm alone. I'll be all alone." She sobs, the mattress muffling her words. I rub my hand over the back of her head in an attempt to comfort her.
I no longer see the sarcastic candor girl who joined dauntless and tried my paitience. I now see a broken woman who had lost everything.
This war has changed us. Broken us.
Destroyed us.
"To-four." Caleb comes into the room and speaks. I cut my eyes at him still angry that she went in his place. "What is it caleb." I say trying to hold back my anger.
Christina raises her head up and wipes the tears from her eyes and looks at caleb. "I-I just thought I should let you know that uriah is starting to breathe on his own. I mean I'm not saying he will wake up. It's just better than he was." He looks at the floor and kicks at the tiles. Christina smiles at me and stands up "may I see him?" Caleb nods and she all but runs out of the room. "Four." caleb says. "If this goes bad. She wanted me to tell you she didn't want to leave you."
I jump out of my chair and pin caleb to the wall. "If she didn't want to then why did she leave. Why didn't you go!" I say my voice cracking as tears roll down my face. Caleb struggles to speak and points to tris behind me.
I drop him and turn around to see her smiling. Eyes closed but smiling.
I rush to her side and grab her hand.
"Tris! Come on wake up." I say the tears falling faster.
Her hand moves in mine and she tries to speak. I see her eyes flutter. And her mouth open. "I- love- you-." She says and goes limp.
The machine recording her vitals makes a loud beep. Everything feels as if it's in slow motion. I scream and feel her face trying to wake her.
I feel her chest for a heart beat and can't find her pulse.
Caleb runs in with doctors who start pressing these things on her chest making her body jolt upward. I sink to my knees in defeat once more.
They try one last time and the monitor jumps into rhythm. I take a deep breath and get back in my chair.
"What just happened!" I shout at the doctor.
"A miracle." Is all he says. I cock an eyebrow at him and he smiles. "She came back to life." And walks out of the room. I brush a hair from her head and sob into the mattress again.
I hold onto all I have in this world. And all I have is tris. My love. My life. My world.
