The next day, Lorraine, Judy, and Reagan were out in the chicken coop playing with the chickens when the elder two saw Ed going near the family car, his "professional" jacket in hand.
"Hey, dad! Sneaking away are we?" Reagan yells from the coop, Arne and Malthus soon joining the girls at the coop with glasses of cool water in the former's hands."Uh, I just gotta run to the store for a few things." Ed tried to bluff to no avail.
"Why do you even try?" Lorraine asked her husband exasperatedly, leaning against the fence.
"What? What do you mean?" He asked, hoping to come off as confused but Lorraine and Reagan immediately saw through him.
"In fifteen years, have you ever been able to lie to me?" Lorraine asks, catching him in his lie like a mother catching her child with his hand in the cookie jar.
"Father Gordon called, he's got a case he wants us to look into. I said I'd go check it out myself."
Lorraine starts to open the chicken coop, clearly intending to go with her husband while Reagan joins Arne and Malthus outside of the coop but stops to give a look to Judy, "Grandma will watch over you. We'll be back as soon as possible, okay?" Reagan says as she gives her little sister a small hug before running out of the coop towards Ed and Lorraine who are talking by the family car, Arne and Malthus not far behind.
Lorraine then ran inside to get dressed after saying something to Ed.
Reagan looks to her father and asks him rhetorically, "Ah-ha. Trying to be slick and leave without her?"
Ed scoffs at his daughter good-naturedly and retorts,
"Yeah. Like I can ever do anything without you knowing about it."Arne and Reagan share a look as Ed turns away, the pair smile secretly at each other and look to the side at Malthus who was giving them his most innocent look.
Seeming to forget that the look lost its potential effect given the fact he was a demon.
Ed was right though, he really could never do anything without Reagan either knowing or finding out about it because Malthus would always tell her later on and nothing ever got past that demon.†---†
A few hours later find Ed and Lorraine walking around the attic of a young couple named David and Leah.
Apparently, they've been hearing noises all throughout their house.
Lorraine looks to the couple seeing that they were scared to be up here, which was strange because she hadn't felt or seen anything yet to be afraid of."We've isolated the disturbances to the attic. Now I just want you to listen for a second." Lorraine says in a level tone, then instantly a noise echoes through the house. Leah starts to freak out and clutches David's arm.
