Goodbyes

As I sat with my head barried in my knees, I could feel the air around me cooking down. I raised my head to see the sun beginning to set in the distance. I heard a shuffle from behind me and turned quickly to see 10k laying on his back sleeping behind me. I tug on the blanket that was on me, realizing I didn't have it when I came out here. He must have followed me and notice I fell asleep and didn't want me to be alone. I sat staring at him thinking about everything. My sister, zombies, the group, and 10k.

Without thinking, I crawled over beside him and curled up close but trying not to wake him incase I scare him.

Before the apocalypse, if you woke someone up, they would just jump and just be a little startled. But now, you would be dead in an instant.

I laid there silently for a while until he shuffled again. He began to sit up so I closed my eyes to pretend I was asleep.
I waited a minute as he sat in silence before I sat up.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and sat up. We didn't speak for a few minutes. Just sat watching the sun fade into the distance. Finally I spoke, "thank you for the blanket," I whispered not want to break the silence. He frowned at me, "your sister needs you. I understand it's hard for you but it's even harder for her. She wants you to be there with her."
I began to shake with fear, "I can't see her like this." Tears flowing free. Silence overcame us once again as the last bit of sun light faded as the stars filled the sky. The sun leaving felt like how my life will be when she's gone. An empty blackness with only small embers left to show what I don't have anymore.

10k stood up with a sudden commotion causing me to jump. I looked up at him with tear stained cheeks as he reached his hand out. I took it as he helped me up, but he didn't let go. He just looked at me. I turned away not feeling anything but pain. Letting go of his hand I headed back to the house with him trailing behind.

As I entered the house, the mood was low. Nobody was talking and the sight of me made tension. I headed upstairs to find my sister sleeping. I sat down beside her and took her hand. She opened her eyes slowly and turned her head just enough to see me.
Full of emotion I spoke, "how long have you been feeling like this? Your strong for not showing it." She laughed faintly, "I've felt like this for about 2 weeks. It didn't hit my hard until 3 days ago when we were low on food." She muttered before coughing. We sat in silence before she spoke up again, "I don't want you to see me like this. I don't want to be remember like this. I just want it to be over. I-" she began but I cut her off not wanting to hear her say it.
"Mel I'm not giving you mercy. I can't do that," I balled.
The began to cry at the sight of me crying, "then let 10k do it. I've seen how you look at him. He smiles when you turn away and blush. There is chemistry between you to and I want you to know he is there for you." I just stared at her. I couldn't believe what she just said. Was it really that obvious? Is she serious about wanting mercy. I didn't know what to think.

"Mel. I don't know what to do." I sobbed.
She let go of my hand And petted my hair, "let me have peace."
With that I nodded and headed down stairs where everyone else is.
Standing at the bottom of the stairs, I didn't bother to look up, "she wishes to have..." I hesitated at the thought, "she wishes for mercy. I can't do it. 10k, can you please. She already said if I..." I felt like I couldn't breathe, "if I can't do it she wishes for you to."
I collapsed at the bottom of the stairs balling and sobbing out of control. 10k ran up to me and put his hand on my knee. "Willa, I'm so sorry," he said before heading up the stairs.
