Glowing grass

Slowly, I started to be social again. I went on hunt for food and gas and eventually I was back to myself. There is still a huge whole in my heart where my sister once was. Nights are horrible for me because all I can ever think of is her dying. And my parents faces if they were there to see. Some nights I'll wake up screaming.

But 10k is helping me heal. He hasn't left my side since that night. I try not to think of losing him. If he was to go, I wouldn't be able to carry on. My heart wouldn't be able to bare it.

"Willa," 10k mumbled from behind as we all walked along, looking for a big enough vehicle, "have you noticed Murphy acting weird?"
I looked back to see Murphy scratching at his hand as he stumbled along. He was picking at his skin.
I looked back up at 10k with a worried look.

"Ok gang. Let's camp out here tonight. Its gonna be night soon. We need so find cover," Warren said as she turned around to see everyone as she walked backwards. We all nodded without saying a work and picked up the pace.

As we came across a small hunting camp, the sun faded behind the tree line.
"We will spend the night in these 2 cabins tonight and carry on in the morning," addy pointed out.
Doc split us up and sent us to our cabins. Murphy, Warren, 10k, and I in one, and Doc, Addy, Mack, and Cassandra in the other.
The bunk beds weren't that comfy when you were alone but with 10k holding me, I didn't care what I was sleeping on. I just wanted to be held.

We weren't asleep for long before we heard banging on the side of the cabin. I woke with a startle causing 10k to jump and hold me tightly. The banging was loud and was messy. As if it was a Z. Murphy rolled over on his bunk bed groaning, "shut the stupid thing up why don't ya."

I rolled my eyes and 10k got up to go check if it was a zombie or one of the others. The cabins were small and had no windows, so 10k had to go outside.

As he stepped out, I stood in the door way. The moon was full and lit up the long grass as if they were glowing, the sound of crickets and frogs were like a loud silence as you could tune them out easily. The smell of the trees filled my nose with the childhood memories of going to the cottage and just laying in the grass with my cousins and swimming in the lake. 10k creeped around the corner with his dagger up and ready to attack, like a tiger sneaking up on a deer. When he disappeared around the corner, I held my breath.

It was silent for a few seconds before I heard a zombie moan. I looked around to reassure that it wasn't behind me. I squinted into the trees to see if it was hiding in the dark.

With a startle, 10k came sprinting around the corner. He had worry on his face.
"What's wrong?" I asked a bit frightened by the sight of him being afraid. He looked me dead in the eye before speaking, "it's a zombie flood!"
