"Cole, I'm gonna need you to remember what happened. We need as much detail as we can get," the officer told the boy sat opposite him, staring down at the table.

He could barely look anywhere else. No tears came to his eyes, no other look beside a blank one appeared on his face. He didn't know what to feel. He didn't know what to think.

Everything was a blur. He could barely remember what happened just hours ago. Why had he chosen this day of all days?

"Cole?"

"I-" he gulped, "I decided that... since we didn't have training today, that it would be a perfect opportunity to take him on a date. I planned a whole day out, we'd go for lunch, ice cream, go-karting, and then end the day with a great picnic... but..."

"I see.." the officer nodded, writing notes down in his notepad.

He and Jay hadn't been able to hang out much recently so the day off was a good chance to finally spend time together. They'd been dating for a few years and missions had kept getting in the way of their time, so Cole promised that as soon as they had some time off, he'd plan something special for them. And he did.. it just didn't end the way he expected.

"Everything was going okay until the picnic... we were eating and chatting and... I-"

Replaying it all in his head was what hurt most. The image of seeing his love in pain was stained in his brain, it's the only thing he'd say no matter where he looked.

"I-It hurts..."

His boyfriend laying in his arms... it was too much.

"Cole?"

"Sorry, um.." Cole coughed, bringing himself back to reality, "I was gonna ask him... an important question and.. before he could answer.. that's when it happened."

"Right... okay..."

As the officer continued to write down his statement, he slowly glanced down at his hands, spotting the dark red stains on both his fingers and his long white sleeves. He'd dressed up smart, trying to impress the lightning ninja. It'd worked, even for a few hours.

"C-Cole-"

He tried to shake the voice out of his head. He tried to distract himself with whatever he could but it was proving to be difficult. He didn't know how to get rid of it.

"And what did you do?"

"I.. uh.. I tried to help him. I got on the floor and put him in my arms. I tried my best to stop the bleeding but... there was just too much and.. about maybe 5 to 10 minutes after I called the ambulance, he... he... well.. y'know..." he trailed off.

They sat in silence again for a few minutes, only the sound of the ticking clock on the wall playing in the background.

"Why... why did you do this?"

"Did you see the person who did it? Like features or anything?"

"They were relatively tall, maybe 5 foot 9... dark skin, short black hair... they're a very sick and twisted person," he snarled, glaring at the table for a moment.

The officer glanced up briefly, a raised eyebrow, "For someone to do that, they would need to be sick and twisted. Are there any other important features? Perhaps you remember what they were wearing?"

"I.. don't remember."

"That's okay. Have you seen them around before?" the officer wondered.

Cole nodded for a moment, catching the officer's attention, "Where?"

"I... don't know."

"Listen, Cole, this person has done something truly wrong and disgusting, so if you remember anything about this person, even if it's small or you think it's unnecessary, please tell me. Everything is important no matter what," they explained calmly.

"They didn't mean to do it," Cole muttered.

The officer frowned, "And how do you know that?"

"Because... I just do."

"Do you know them personally?"

Cole thought for a minute, fiddling with his thumbs. His head became light for a short moment.

"I.. I suppose.."

"Cole, tell me their name."

"I can't."

"It's important that you do. We can find them and stop them from doing this to anyone else. You don't want them hurting another person, especially someone you care about, do you?" they told him.

"I already told you," Cole's voice became more aggressive, "They didn't mean it. They never meant to hurt him. Trust me, if they could take it back then they would."

"Don't they deserve to be locked up?"

"Of course they do, but they're scared! Okay?!" Cole exclaimed.

"This isn't something you can just say sorry for and call it a day. It's murder. This person deserves to be thrown in kryptarium for life," the officer became more stern, "Please just tell me who did it."

"I can't! You don't understand!" he cried.

"Cole, who killed Jay?"

"Me! It was me! I killed him!"
