In short, a magic shop is: "a type of psychotherapy where a psychologist/therapist takes on the role of a magic shop owner who attempts to barter with "customers" in an attempt to satisfy their needs and wants in a constructive way. When you walk into the magic shop, you may ask for anything or try to sell what you don't want. Everything comes at a price though. What you come in looking for isn't always what you leave with.

The magic shop owner and assistants are trained to help each customer find what will be most beneficial to them. Whether it is something like an anti-control gadget or a rose without thorns, there is no limit to what may be asked for or sold. In addition, what is given up or bought has the potential to be recycled in ways specific to the needs or wants of the customer(s)."

A few of the lyrics of Magic Shop talk about how the boys want to replace ARMYs "sadness and pain" for "comfort", much like the way the psychologist/therapist acts as the shopkeeper to exchange one thing for another.
