Only One

151 26 20

Only One

clasped like a cool
river pebble,
–fingers wired and curled–
copper shell
kisses my palm.

Only one

slide the copper
into revolving tunnels,
all barren save for only
one.
like coins smoothing
through tight slots,
the copper bullet clicks

Only one–
it takes
to terminate.
aim for the brain
        –the virus sweet spot–

salvation from

deranged staggers
deteriorated flesh
decayed minds
demented moans
       – desirous undead

as if summoned by
Goddess Mercy herself,
copper releases,
kisses,
my infected canvas
of memories

Author's Note: I wrote this poem with zombies in mind - the speaker is commiting suicide to prevent from turning into a zombie, but I've noticed others have had a different take on it as they read it, which is awesome! Like I said, I wrote it with zombies in mind, but if it graces you in a distinct way, I'd like to know!
