CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
Cindy's POV
"Cindy, will you move in with me?"
That sentence was our parting words, since I couldn't say anything after he dropped that bombshell on me.
I had tucked in Kayla and had also retired to the comfort of my sheets but the comfortable goodness couldn't help take my mind off what Sam had said earlier. He's amazing and all but he knew I had just moved away from my parents not quite long ago and he also knew that Kayla and I had just started to finally settle in our new home so I didn't know why he suddenly wanted to rush things all of a sudden.
To be honest, he had rendered me speechless because I didn't want him thinking I wasn't fully committed but I was also very proud of what I had been able to build. Sam has always been patient with me and always understanding, so I was really hoping this wasn't going to be a problem.
By the time I was drifting off into oblivion, I had already decided.
I was going to decline his offer in the nicest way possible and explain why I thought we were moving too fast. I fell asleep a few minutes later hoping to have an amazing day tomorrow.
My alarm didn't abandon its job as it blared its lungs out immediately the clock struck five. I lazily crawled out of bed and walked slowly towards the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and stepped into the shower, the cool water waking me up enough to remember that I was a parent who needed to get her daughter up and ready for school.
Waking Kayla up every morning wasn't really a problem. The little princess was a morning person, always bubbly, wanting to share all the cute and wonderful dreams her little mind had made up during her sleep, so you would image how terrified I was to find her curled up in bed, shivering violently, sweat pouring out of her pores in heaps, her body completely hot to the touch. "Kayla! What is it, honey? Tell mama what's wrong." I tried to take off her covers, but she would have none of it. "C-c-cold, mama... I'm very c-cold."
I immediately dashed back to my room, grabbing the first thing I could find in my wardrobe, and running back to Kayla's to get her, covers and all into my car. I called dad. "Dad, it's Kayla. She's running a temperature; I think she's coming down with a fever." I told him, almost on the verge of tears.
"Calm down, honey. She'll be fine." He promised. "Just get her to the hospital as soon as possible okay. Drive safe. I'll see you soon."
I got into the car and drove out of the house, all the while praying that my daughter would come out of this safe. Kayla has had minor cold over the years but nothing has been as frightening as this. Dad had told me not to stress too much about it, but how could I not worry?
My mind was in a frenzy but I got to the hospital before I could even register it. I had been constantly checking on Kayla and it was a shock to know that I made it there in just thirty minutes. I think Dad already contacted the hospital because there were nurses waiting to assist us when I pulled up. They gently carried Kayla from her car seat and placed her on a stretcher, quickly wheeling her into the hospital. My baby looked so miserable that I just wished I could take some of the pain off her.
I thanked the nurse as we headed to the emergency department. Dad was already there and rushed towards us when he saw us. "Dad, save her please, I'm begging you." I cried. "Bring her back to me safe."
"Don't worry Cin, she's going to be okay, but we have to check on her first." Dad assured me and entered the private ward where my daughter had been wheeled into. Since I wasn't allowed in there during her treatment, I had to watched from the sidelines worriedly hoping that my baby was going to be okay.
