Chapter 20

Six years later

Cindy's Pov

“Kayla! Come on honey, we've got to go or else you'd be late.” I shouted as I proceeded to exit the house to my car.

Six years.

It's been a whole rollercoaster you know?

Having to juggle the responsibility of raising a six year old while managing a rapidly growing fashion line was tough, but I was loving every bit of it.

Besides, I had the best support system a young woman could ask for, meaning I was basically living the good life.

“Bye grandma, bye grandpa.” I heard my little girl holler before hurrying to join me outside.

A whole lot had happened in the space of six years, starting with Janet, my best friend getting a scholarship to go study abroad.

She had come to see me a week after Kayla was born and Dr. Mike, being the good man he was, had asked her to stay for a few days. The good news came on one of those days and we had gladly joined her in celebrating.

Heaven knows my best friend had suffered just as much as I had.

Dr. Mike gave her enough money to get ready for her trip, and took care of any other additional costs, and then she had left.

We still keep in touch to this day despite our busy schedules, she's currently doing her residency at some hospital in New York.

You won't believe it, but the second major occurrence was my mum and Dr. Mike's marriage.

Trust me when I tell you I definitely didn't see that one coming.

The two were always at each other's throats, fighting for a then 7 months-old Kayla's attention, and arguing over other petty issues.

Not knowing, it was the sexual tension talking.

Even the thought of that had me cringing in disgust, but oh well...

In any case, I'm super glad that my mum found love a second time, and I'm happy that she found it with Dr. Mike. The kind man had adopted me, and so now, I was his daughter... but that didn't mean I was going to forget me real father, of course.

He would always have a special place in my heart.

Initially, I was sad for Simon our formal security man though. The man never hid how smitten he was for my mum so the whole wedding ceremony had taken a toll on him.

Every sense of sympathy I had for the man vanished when he kidnapped my mum.

That was three years ago.

I think he finally got tired of seeing her happy with another man and therefore decided to take her away or something...

I'll never understand.

Every one had been frantic then. Because the bastard had been very clever, always making sure to return to the house... acting all concerned, he really was a chameleon.

It took Grace's keen observation to apprehend him. Thankfully, my mum was returned back to us... unharmed.

He was currently doing his time in jail, where he definitely belonged.

I realised how much Dr. Mike loved my mum in that moment, and that was a turning point in our relationship.

That was when I began to call him Dad.

I guess you have been completely caught up now.

That's everything of importance that has been going on in my life, the rest is just the usual everyday stuff.
