Chapter Twenty-Eight
CINDY
Sam could sense that Cindy was not okay despite her words, so he decided to probe further. "Are you really okay, Cindy? I can tell this whole situation is very stressful for you."
Cindy let out a long sigh before answering. "I'm just tired, Sam. Tired of all the drama and the constant fear that someone from my past will show up and disrupt my peaceful life. I've worked so hard to build a new life for myself and Kayla, and I don't want anything to jeopardize that."
"I understand how you feel," Sam replied. "But you can't keep running away from your past forever. Eventually, you will have to face it and confront the people who have hurt you."
Cindy nodded slowly, taking in Sam's words. "I know you're right, Sam. But it's just so hard to face them after everything they've put me through. And what about Kayla? I don't want her to be dragged into all of this mess."
"I understand your concern for Kayla, but keeping secrets from her father is not the solution. Brian deserves to know that he has a daughter, and Kayla deserves to know her father," Sam said firmly.
Cindy sighed again, knowing that Sam was right. "I know, Sam. I just need some time to think about how to handle this situation. I don't want to make any hasty decisions."
"Take all the time you need, Cindy. Just know that I'm here for you, no matter what," Sam said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Cindy smiled weakly, grateful for Sam's support. She knew that she couldn't handle this situation alone, but with Sam by her side, she felt a little less afraid.
Over the next few days, Cindy couldn't shake off the thoughts that Sam had planted in her mind. She knew that she couldn't keep running away from her past, but she was still hesitant to confront it.
She spent hours thinking about how she would tell Brian about Kayla and what his reaction would be.
Would he be angry that she had kept this from him for so long? Would he want to take Kayla away from her and start a new life with his daughter? The thought of losing Kayla was unbearable for Cindy, and she didn't know if she was ready to take that risk.
BRIAN
Brian sat at the kitchen table, lost in thought. Rosa had gone back to the bedroom for a nap after lunch, leaving him to his own devices. He knew he should call his sister back but he couldn't bring himself to do it just yet. Instead, he thought about what Rosa had said earlier.
She was right, they needed to tell his family about the baby. It was long overdue, and he didn't want to keep hiding it from them. But he also knew it wouldn't be easy, especially with his mother's conservative views. His mother had ruined his chances of ever getting back with Cindy and he knew deep down in his heart that it was going to be hard to forgive her.
