Story #7: The Day

this is a long one
also, doubletree does have a brunch buffet; i chose here for them because i personally have been there (i went to the one in arlington heights, illinois) and i have been to the brunch buffet; it's amazing

Togami and Kayama were soaked after throwing each other in the pool, getting weird stares from kids and dirty looks from parents. One parent even came up to them and told the two to "get a room"; all they did was laugh and walk away.

Kayama: Byakuya, wanna get breakfast tomorrow? They have a buffet that's pretty inexpensive.
Togami: As long as the food doesn't taste old.
Kayama: Nah, it's awesome. I've been here before, they always have fresh stuff.
Togami: I'll try it.

Kayama unlocked the hotel room, and to her surprise, Hamanatch was up.

Hamanatch; You guys are soaked. Disheveled, even.
Togami: It started with her throwing me into the water and then that becoming a constant fight.
Kayama: [drousy] Most of the vanilla in your scent is gone, you smell more like chlorine.

Kayama held onto Togami; she was tired. It was around 7:00 PM, meaning it was at least 5:00 AM back home.

Hamanatch: So, what did you do when I was asleep? Byakuya, did ya' let her hit it?
Togami: [flustered] No.
Hamanatch: Yo, you don't gotta lie. I'm a heavy sleeper.
Kayama: [wincing] Noria, can you go at LEAST twelve seconds without making a filthy remark?
Hamanatch: Alright. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight...

Togami and Kayama stood there with blank expressions as Hamanatch counted.

Hamanatch: ..twelve. Done. Hey, Leah, what's all under your acrylics?
Kayama: My real nails.
Hamanatch: And what's under those?
Kayama: Probably dirt.
Hamanatch: But from what?
Kayama: I will kill you in your sleep.

Not long later, Togami and Kayama fell asleep. Hamanatch took it upon herself to be a weirdo — and catch them cuddling. At first, Kayama was sort of uncomfortable, but she warmed up after Togami's reassurance.

The next morning, Kayama's alarm went off at around 5:45 AM, waking Togami up. Hamanatch was sitting on her bed, staring at her phone. Togami, still half asleep, grabbed onto Kayama's waist, placing his head in the crook of her neck.

Hamanatch: Would you look at that, you two went from not even sharing a room to being told to get a room.
Togami: [half asleep] Would you shut it with the jokes?
Hamanatch: I guess so, anything for my best friend's lover boy.

With a huge thing coming up — Togami and Hamanatch meeting Kayama's ex, and Kayama re-meeting him, everyone should be mediocrely presentable. While Hamanatch sat on her phone, because they didn't have to leave until eleven, Kayama and Togami got ready — since they had that complimentary breakfast.

Just then, Kayama's phone buzzed.

iMessage: Noria 😩 (/p)

Noria: take a look at what i found 😈
Kayama: what
Noria: [Attachment: 1 Image]
Kayama: are you serious!? that's what you did with all of your energy? caught byakuya and i acting like an in-love couple?
Noria: exactly

It was 11:00 AM. Go time.

Hamanatch: Got bags?
Togami: We aren't checking out of the hotel, all you'd technically need is your cell phone.
Kayama: Go time. My plan is to take a taxi, which should get here at 11:15. Then, we'll get there at around 11:30, wait five minutes for him to answer, and leave at 11:50 - 12, giving us the rest of the day to sit around.
Togami: Can I at least sit on the end? I hate the middle seat, it's so cramped.
Kayama: Sure. I'll suffer in the middle.
Hamanatch: Leah, how do you even know where this guy lives?
Kayama: I guess he was idiotic enough to throw his information out on the Internet.
Togami: What's this dudes name anyways? Leah's ex?
Kayama: J - A - C - O - B.
Togami: Jaco-
Kayama: [hushing Togami] No. I hate his name and will furthermore not have anyone say it.
Hamanatch: I bet he has sweaty hands. Like, all the time.
Kayama: I'm not sure.

The taxi came. Togami, Hamanatch and Kayama made it. One by one, they piled out of the vehicle.

Hamanatch: Let's settle this; who's knocking? Not me. My hands are sweating buckets. Byakuya has a formal knock, and L dated the guy.
Kayama: Not me. Who knows what sicko germs he has.
Togami: I guess I'll do it, if none of you scaredies are gonna do it.
Kayama: HEY!! You can't call your girlfriend and most-likely-99%-chance-future wife that!
Togami: [sigh] Alright then, 'Mrs. Togami.'
Kayama: That just makes me feel old. Now knock.

Togami knocked.
No answer.
He knocked again and waited.
Hamanatch and Kayama appeared at his sides, Hamanatch grimacing from the strong vanilla scent and Kayama hanging onto him.

And then,
He answered.

J: Who are you idiots?
Togami: [snicker] It was my girlfriend's idea. You know her, I bet.
Hamanatch: Yeah, and you smell worse than him, and he's got a radiating smell of vanilla that you can smell from about ten miles away.

The second Kayama opened her mouth, he remembered.

Kayama: Byakuya, dear, you never objected to the idea.
J: L-Leah?

Kayama gave him the smile of terror. The one that she gives Hamanatch whenever she makes a really bad but funny joke.

J: Knacka..?
Kayama: To you, it's 'Kayama.' Or, possibly, even 'Togami'. The family name Knacka can burn in hell.
J: A-anyways, what brought the rest of you morons over here?
Togami: Well, Leah said that she wanted to 'catch up' since it's been forever.
J: O-okay. I guess you could come in..
Togami: [whispering to Kayama] This dude stutters like he's that idiot Fukawa.
Kayama: Don't bring her up.

In this moment and time, nothing important happens. Kayama hung onto Togami, making *him* jealous. Hamanatch insulted him left and right, making her almost get plunged into a wall. If anything, it ended in an "F YOU" from him. Kayama called yet another taxi, and this time it was Hamanatch's turn to sit in the middle.
