KATE'S POV
Rows and rows of lined up shelves were filled with tales and the history of werewolves, witches and vampires but my interest was solely on hybrids.
I was seated upon a table swinging my legs back and forth hitting the chair beneath it with every swing but a growl has me stopping myself from continuing.
Peeking out of my book I look down to see one of the hybrids nudging the chair away and seating himself beneath my legs. Due to his tall stature even while seated his head was comfortably placed on my thigh.
"Hey buddy..."
Combing my fingers through his fur I continue reading about the very first hybrids created still awed at the fact that they were right before my eyes. Only thing is, I wish there was some way to communicate to them. Usually a witch would suffice for a temporary spell to speak with them but there is no one apart from us on this side of the barrier.
A screeching sound from sharp claws was heard to my left which has me come to stand in front of a smaller bookshelf. It was one of the hybrids but this one was easy to distinguish for it had a scar below its right eye.
"Yes, Scar?" I question him using his temporary name to which he scoffs at.
"Bear with me-" my words collapse as I'm left wide eyed at the bookshelf that pushes itself backwards and slides to its right side.
What amazes me more is that it wasn't a dark tunnel that awaited me, instead it was a large spacious room with an elevated ceiling carved through a rock. Just like the library, this cave also had shelves of ancient books and scrolls.
Taking cautious steps towards the centre of the cave room followed by Scar, I examine the contents strewn across the circular desk.
Interesting.
Just as I was about to dig in through the next pile of papers my wolf catches a familiar scent. This has me weaving through the house with the hybrids hot on my heels following the same scent.
Making our way through the forest just like the first time, except this time disappointment awaited us across the barrier.
Despite the tense mood, the sunset looked beautiful nonetheless shadowing him perfectly. The hybrids snarled beside me, I was on their side but my heart was in both places at the same time.
I had to make the right decision and choose one side, after all... I am now the Luna.
XAVIOUS' POV
We were prepared for anything and everything to cross the barrier for my mate; my pack's Luna.
Taking Cole; my beta with me while preparing Heithen to lead the pack while we're gone. Gearing up with a few of my warriors in the main pack hall as they bid farewell to their loved ones.
However, halfway through with advising Heithen about a new building to be constructed silence falls upon us as the Elders make their presence known.
Acknowledging them, I dismiss everyone with a nod allowing the 5 of them to seat themselves comfortably on the couches; 4 men and 1 woman.
"Do you know what is beyond that barrier, boy?" The woman questions me after everyone finishes greeting me.
I could tell she was a woman by her scruffy clipped tone. Apart from that, all five of them were covered by black robes and cloaks with hoods; I couldn't make anything of their faces.
"...or better yet why that barrier has been placed there?"
I disliked the fact she referred to me as 'boy' despite the fact that they are my elders I am the Alpha of all packs!
The Hybrid Alpha!
"Do enlighten me. I'm sure my father's got something to do with it."
"Ever wonder how you became to be a hybrid whilst both your parents were said to be werewolves?"
"By the looks of it, I guess not." One of the men sends a strained laugh which sounded more like a wheeze.
"Your father was the very first Hybrid to be, son" One man states in a similar tone; who sounds all too familiar...
The man who said those terrifying words to me that burned through my mind on that atrocious night;
'It will all be over soon son'.
It's him...
