Edgar pov.
Once again I'm forced to go to another party because of my parents. It's supposed to be for the local inventors and they're presentation. Honestly I couldn't care less. Just more greedy fools I'll be forced to talk to. I truly don't understand how Maple manages to stay so calm and nice. These people are disgusting yet somehow she's still able to be kind. Either way that doesn't matter right now. I need to figure out away to either slip out without my father noticing or find a nice corner to hide in. The guests are already starting to arrive. There's only about a dozen people and it's already so loud. I despise loud noises. The music doesn't make it any better. I like music but it's different during parties... It's so quiet in comparison to the loud talking and laughing of the fools in the room. I sat at a small table in a corner waiting for the perfect time to slip out. I watched as guests entered our house. Most of them were as dressed up as possible but one caught my eye. His messy hair tied in a high ponytail and his clothes were nice but in comparison to everyone else. It definitely had a difference. His smile had a small snagged tooth show through his lips. He was quite handsome If I say so myself although he probably wasn't any different from the surrounding people. I held my sketch book in may hands as I stood up and slipped through the kitchen. Thank God the sound is muffled making it a little quieter in here. Stared out the window into the garden lost in thought. Some about art, some about Maple, some about how my Father might yell at me for this later or something else depending on what happens, and some about the man I saw that was truly stunning. He seemed different but I know better than to believe apperances. I snapped out of my thoughts when I felt a little tap on my shoulder. I spun around about to hit the figure who dared touch me. I turned to see that man from Earlier.
"Edgar Valden? Right?" He asked smiling kindly.
"Yes... What do you need? Shouldn't you be out with the rest?" I questioned back.
"I'm sorry for bothering you. I just came in here to get a break from the crowd. I didn't want to just awkwardly stand here." He said apologizing and worried about upsetting me. Strange that he would need a break. I've never seen anyone leave the crowd before other than to use the restroom.
"Oh... sorry. I was a bit rude. What's your name?" I asked trying to soften.
"I'm Luca Balsa! I'm the apprentice of Lorenz." He spoke smiling kindly.
"I see. Well if you don't mind me asking why'd you leave? Surely you'd be happy with socializing with more upbeat people." I asked. He seems nice. So why would he waste time with me. I know he's not going to want to be around me sooner or later so why put in the effort if you know we're not going to get along.
"Hmm...well to be honest the people here are fake. They really only care about themselves and their wealth. It's hard to have a genuine conversation. Especially since all they do is gossip." He spoke sadly looking down.
"You could feel it too....." I'm suprised. I've never met another person who understood it too.
"Yeah... How do you do it? I can't stand it. It's uncomfortable.." he asked. Still looking down.
"I don't... They're suffocating. I try to hide as much as I can. I don't waste my time with them. They disgust me. They know nothing of art and the true meaning of the world." I say bluntly.
" Well that's fair. Would you care to dance?" He looked back up at me.
"Me? You can go find someone else. You're quite charming surely you kind find a pret-"
"I'd like to dance with you."Luca cut me off. I blushed at the statement. No one's ever wanted to dance with me. Well only one other person but he was a creep and thought I was a girl.
"Okay, fine... Here let me take you somewhere private so we can dance."
I took his hand and led him to the terrace next to my art studio.
"Here, This should do. Also umm I'm sorry but I'm not a very good dancer."
"It's Alright dear." He smiled and took my hand leading the way. He lead me through the dance. I stepped on him a few times but soon got the hang of it.
After a while we finished and we held eachother close. This felt nice. Something I've never felt before...I like it though.
"You know you have such a cold exterior but you do have a soft side." Luca said to which I just nodded into his chest.
"You're so kind to me. I've never had someone be so nice." I say softly.
"What do you mean. Are your parents not loving to you?" He asked a little concerned.
"Umm..well...to be honest my Father doesn't really care for me. He thinks I'm too feminine and only sees my paintings as a money source. Not to mention when I disagree or disobey he....." small tears streamed down my face as I was unable to finish my sentence. Luca just held me as I softly cried.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." He said softly.
"No, no. It's fine... The party should be ending soon. Shouldn't you leave? Plus you've been gone a long time." I say changing the subject.
"It's alright. Also here." He put a pocket watch in my hand. I examined it looking at all the small details on the small clock.
"It's something I made. I want you to have it. As a gift." He smiled happily.
"T-thank you." I say giving a small smile.
"You should smile more. It's cute on you." He says laughing slightly.
"I- um.."
" Would you like to meet me at the park tomorrow?" He said eagerly.
"Sure. What time?" I ask accepting happily.
"Hmmm how does 2 sound?"
"That works. I look forward to seeing you." I said.
" You too!" And with that we parted ways.
Luca Balsa. What a interesting man you are. Truly extraordinary....
