Part 3. Don't trust anyone

"Hey steve!" Jack said excitedly as Steve walked up to him

The two hugged each other with smiles and sat down at the cafe where Jack had been waiting for Steve

"How have you been?" Jack asked seriously after their tense mission on the Lemurian star

The two had talked already after the mission but Jack felt like Steve was still holding grudges against him for 'jeopardizing' the mission

"I've been busy" he said
"Fury got a lot of missions lined up for me" he said

"How are we doing?" Jack asked

"We're good" Steve said
"You only did what was asked of you and I can't blame you for that. I guess I just have to make peace that we have different priorities sometimes" Steve said with a soft smile

"Glad we're okay" Jack nodded

"I just came from Sam his recovery class" Steve said changing the subject

"Did you join?" Jack asked with a confused frown

"No I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by Sam to get to know him a little better" Steve said

"How was it?" Jack asked

"It was rough, I had a deep conversation with him too" Steve told Jack
"He asked me if I wanted to get out"

"Out of shield?" Jack asked and steve nodded
"What did you say?" Jack asked with compassion

"I told him I didn't know" Steve said
"Which I really don't"

"I'm not saying you shouldn't do what you want, but the team needs you, we are lost without you" Jack said

"I think you would be fine without me" Steve said

"Not anymore" Jack said softly

"I'd get better parts in missions maybe" Jack said before the two chuckled at their tough times working with each other

"Not anymore huh?" Steve asked referring to what Jack said before

"In the past few month I have learned a lot from you" Jack started
"Your loyalty, honor and right set of mind are projecting on me and I like the person I'm becoming because of you" Jack said

"Would I be fine without you? Probably" Jack said
"But I would be a whole lot better with you" jack smiled at Steve

They were both falling for each other and they knew it but they were not even nearly ready to even admit it to one another

Or at least, Jack was not

"Thanks Jack" Steve said rubbing thumb over jack his hand and smiling at him

"Of course" Jack smiled back

A couple blocks away Director Fury was in his car driving to meet with his number one shield agent, Maria Hill

"Activating communications encryption protocol" his virtual assistant said

"Open secure line 0405" Fury said

A sound effect was heard and the assistant confirmed that the line was now open

"This is Hill" agent Hill said through the secure line

"I need you hear in D.C." Fury told her
"Deep shadow conditions" he said with a serious tone

"Give me 4 hours" she said

"You have three. over" fury said and closed the line

Fury pulled up to a red light and a police car Pulled up next to him
