After finding Steve and Jack, Natasha brought them to the hospital where they both were unconscious for a couple days
Both of them were doing good now, Jack woke up after nearly two days and Steve did after four. Despite this they were still very weak and Jack was nowhere near able to heal Steve even though he wanted to very badly
Jack was sitting next to Steve's bed as Steve was sleeping and with his eyes closed, he was focusing on Steve's heart beat
His heartbeat changed and Jack opened his golden eyes before they turned back to normal and he looked at Steve
"Hey" Steve said softly reaching out for Jacks hand
"Are you okay?" He asked
"Yeah I'm fine" Jack reassured not wanting to cause any worries for the super soldier
"Sure?"
"Sure" Jack smiled
"Good" Steve said
"I don't blame you" Steve said
"For what happened on the hellicarrier" he said referring to Jack throwing Bucky out of the hellicarrier
"Thanks" Jack said looking at Steve's thumb as he brushed over his hand
"I also believe a thank you is in order.. doctor said I shouldn't have survived a fall that high with 5 bullets inside of me" Steve said
"Don't worry about it" Jack shrugged it off and it made the two chuckle before they continued their conversation
...
"Do you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?" The judge asked Natasha after she put her hand on the Bible
It was a couple days after Steve had left the hospital and Natasha was supposed to answer in front of a judge after the whole HYDRA happening
"Yes" she replied
"Why haven't we yet heard of captain Rogers?"
"I don't know what there is left for him to say, I think the wreck in the middle of the Potomac made his point fairly eloquently" Natasha replied
"Well, he could explain how this country is expected to maintain its national security now that he and you have laid waste to our intelligence apparatus"
"HYDRA was selling you lies, not intelligence" Natasha said
"Many of which you seemed to have had a personal hand in telling"
"Agent" another judge said
"You should know that there are some in this committee who feel, given your service record both for this country and against it, that you belong in a penitentiary"
"And not mouthing off on Capitol Hill"
"You're not gonna put me in a prison, you're not going to put any of us in prison. You know why?" Natasha asked
"Do enlighten us"
"Because you need us" Natasha said
"Yes the world is a vulnerable place and yes, we help make it that way, but we're also the ones best qualified to defend it"
"So it you wanna arrest me, arrest me"
"You'll know where to find me" she said before standing up and walking out of the courtroom

After Fury burned all his stuff Steve and Sam met with him at his grave since the world still thought he was dead
"So you've experienced this sort of thing before?" He asked Steve
"You get used to it" Steve said Steve said looking at the grave with Nick fury's full name on it
"We've been data mining HYDRA's files"
"Looks like a lot of rats didn't go down with the ships" Fury said
"I'm headed to Europe tonight, wanted to ask if you'd come" he asked Steve
"There's something I got to do first" Steve said
"How about you, Wilson?" Fury asked Sam
"Could use a man with your abilities" Fury said
"I'm more of a soldier than a spy" Sam replied
"All right then" Fury nodded his head before shaking both Sam's and Steve's hand
"Anybody asks for me, tell them they can find me, right here" Fury said nodding to his grave
"You should be honored. That's about as close as he gets to saying thank you" Natasha said as she and Jack made their way over there too
"Not going with him?" Steve asked Natasha
"No" she smiled
"Not staying here?"
"Nah"
"I blew all my covers I got to go figure out a new one" Natasha said and steve nodded
"What about you, kiddo?" He asked Jack
"I'm not sure" Jack said
"First Stansa Rosso gone, now S.H.I.E.L.D." Jack said
"Looks like I gotta get a job" Jack joked
"With your resume?" Steve laughed before Natasha and Jack joined in m
"Called in a few favors with Kiev" Natasha said before handing over a file map to Steve
"Can you do me one?" Natasha asked
"Call that nurse" Natasha said knowing it would annoy Jack
"She's not a nurse" Steve said
"And you're not a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent"
"What's her name again?" Steve asked
"Sharon"
"Yeah... no" Steve said holding his arm open slightly suggesting for Jack to come closer
"I think we're good" Steve smiled after putting his arm around Jacks waist, confirming their relationship much to Natasha's surprise
"Good for you guys" Natasha smiled dropping a hint that she needed to go
She took a few steps but stopped to warn Steve
"Be careful Steve, you might not want to pull on that thread" she said referring to the map of files before really walking away
Steve opened the file and it was everything they knew about James Buchanan Barnes
"Going after him?" Jack asked
The search team did not find anyone in the lake and it led Steve to believe that Bucky was still very much alive
"You don't have to come with me" Steve said
Jack shrugged and smiled at Steve with a familiar glow in his eyes
"When do we start?" Jack asked
