Loving can hurt sometimes, but it brings the outmost joy in someone else. This loving people have is tight and secure, when some is loose and free.

The night before his birthday, Lan Qiren had called Wei Ying to his residence. The young master happily walked the night path as he trudged the way to his father. Opening the door with a smile.

"A-diē!"

Wei Ying entered through the door with his signature smile. Lan Qiren who was sat on the floor smiled.

"A-Ying, sit in front of me."

Wei Ying made his way and sat in front of Lan Qiren, who untied his hair and took Wei Yings' forehead band off.

(Parents and relatives can only touch the sect headband)

Wei Yings' hair was damped with water as Lan Qiren combed it.

"You've grown prosperous and graceful. You have the right sense of justice and you have a peaceful mind. Thankful and loyal. Generous and kind. Mischievous but you know your mistakes."

Wei Ying gave a small smile.

"You've grown learning all six arts. A strong willed person. A person who is loving and understanding."

Lan Qiren smiled fondly at his son.

"You're going to be ten tonight or tomorrow. How does it feel?"

"Like I'm holding a huge responsibility."

"How so?"

"Everyone seems so curious about me. They want to know who am I and how will I perform."

"It's because everyone here saw how hard working you are."

"Still. The Lan Clan was kind enough to take me in as a disciple when it's stated in the rules that it is prohibited. I will forever be thankful for your decisions and kindness, A-diē."

Lan Qiren sighed as he tied Wei Yings' forehead band back.

"You go back and take your rest. You have a long day before you."

"You rest well too, A-diē."

Wei Ying then left Lan Qirens' residence and started walking the dimly lit path. Only the light of the moon guiding him.

"Say, if everything was thrown away, Would living with a smile be easier?"

Wei Ying began to sing, him twirling under the moonlight. Instead of going back to the Gentian house, he made his way to the cold pond.

"Because my chest is hurting again, Don't say anything more."

Holding his arms as he neared enough to hear the rushing water fall.

"Hey, what if everything could be forgotten, wouldn't living without tears end up easier?
But I can't do that so, don't show me more."

He stood at the age of the water and stared at his reflection. Eyes glistening as he knelt down.

"No matter how close you bring me. My heart remains one..."

A smile plastered on his face as tears started to fall.

Wei Ying never thought that someone would go as far to break rules just to take care of him. To give him something he deserves but refuses to believe so. Wei Ying is sad because they are too kind for him. Too considerate and too loving. It makes him feel heavy to know that people live him so well. With a little smile, he closed his eyes as he breathed in slowly.
