Darkkit purred as she crouched low to the snow, flicking her small tail.
She eyed the black snow beetle in front of her, crawling down in the soft snow.

She lowered her haunches, hoping not to be seen by the snow beetle.
It'll never know what's coming!

She was only 2 moons old, and she had managed to find a snow beetle in camp.
She was hoping she could catch it to practice her hunting skills when she becomes an apprentice, and then show it off to her parents, and they would see what a great hunter she is already!

She crawled slowly closer and closer to the snow beetle, she had made lots of noise with the noise crunching beneath her paws, but that was the snow's fault! Not hers!
Besides, it wasn't like the  snow beetle was noticing.
Stupid beetle, she thought.

When she was close enough, she had lunged forward with a squeak of a battle cry.
She swiftly landed on the small beetle, killing it with a crunch of paws.

She cringed a bit at the foul feel of the beetle as she carefully grabbed it in her tiny jaws and prodded back to the nursery.
It always took a little while to get to the nursery with her legs, but that was only because she was a kit! She would grow soon!

As she prodded to the stone den, she saw Ravenspots, her father, who was a black tom with her eyes and white speckles, who was standing over her mother, Willowfrost.

Willowfrost was a dark gray she-cat with white inner ears, muzzle, underbelly, paws and tip-of-tail, she was inside the nursery, inside a soft moss nest, curled nest to Snowkit, her sister

Snowkit was a white she-kit with deep blue eyes, with soft fur. She was bouncing around, trying to catch Willowfrost's tail.

She purred proudly as she dropped her beetle at the entrance of the nursery

She purred proudly as she dropped her beetle at the entrance of the nursery. "Mommy! Daddy! Snowkit! Look what I caught!"

They turned to her.
Willowfrost looked proud. "Excellent catch, Darkkit! You will be an apprentice in no time!"
Darkit lashed her tail excitedly of her family's praise. "Did I do good?"
Willowfrost let out a purr in her throat. "You did wonderful, sweetie!"

Snowkit rolled her eyes. "I could of done better!"
Willowfrost gave Snowkit a stern look. "Snowkit, don't be rude to your sister!"
Snowkit sighed. "Fine.. you did good, I guess.."

Darkkit purred. "Thanks! What do you think, Dad?"

Silence.

Odd, Darkkit thought curiously.

Ravenspots finally spoke after a moon. "Darkkit, may I speak with you alone?"
Darkkit grinned happily. "Of course!

She bounced along her father as he led her to a secluded area where not much of any of the Clan went, and she grinned happily as they sat down, facing each other.
Why were they here alone?
Is he gonna give me some advice? Darkkit thought. Is he gonna give me some tips when I'm an apprentice and when I have to hunt for my Clan?

Then, out of nowhere, Ravenspots raised his paw and slapped over Darkkit's cheek.

Darkkit let out a squel in pain as the force smack left out a bruise on her cheek. "Owwww! Daddy, that hurt..."
Ravenspots let out a snort. "I don't care how much it hurt, it should teach you a lesson."

Darkkit widened her eyes. "A.. lesson? A lesson in what?"

Ravenspots hissed as he glared in her eyes. "You think you're sooooo special, Darkkit.."
Darkkit shook her head, "I am not!" she protested.
Why is daddy being so rude? Darkkit thought in confusion.

Ravenspots raised his paw, now unsheathing his claws. "DON'T INTERRUPT WHILE I'M TALKING!!!"
Darkkit winced. "Y-yes, daddy.."

Ravenspots put his paw down. "A frost-brain beetle?! Seriously?! I've should of expected. Snowkit had caught a mouse, and you bring back a worthless beetle. What do you think cats are, insect eaters?!"
Darkkit whimpered. "I-I'm sorry, daddy.."

Ravenspots snorted and narrowed his eyes. "Sometimes, I wish Snowkit was my only kit."
Darkkit shook out the pain as her heart tore in half...

"Why are you being so mean?" Darkkit choked out.
"Don't be so dramatic," Ravenspots snapped. "You still act like a newborn kit! Well, guess what? No one in the Clan really likes you, they hate you, actually. They're only nice because they pity your pathetic hunting skills, you'll be the worst IceClan warrior to ever have existed, I don't understand why Redstar doesn't throw you out by now."

He then narrowed his eyes and turned around. "You will be sleeping outside the nursery tonight."
"B-b-but Cloudwish said it would rain tonight!" Darkkit protested.
Ravenspots eyed her with his eyes in slits. "Good." He then trotted off.

Once Darkkit was alone, she let tears splatter on her paws.
