"Whitepaw, StarClan honors your strength and determination, and we welcome you as a warrior of IceClan. From this day on, you will be known as Whiteclaw."
"Whiteclaw! Raindapple! Swiftfur!"

Darkfrost snarled as she watched Snowpelt and Cloudspots nuzzle each other in pride of their son, Whiteclaw.
That should of been me with Cloudspots, she thought bitterly.

She didn't as much cheered when their little brat became a warrior. Even though her former apprentice, Silvertail, was cheering loudly.
Flowerpaw cheered alongside her sister with her mentor, Redberry.
Their medicine cat had died a few moons ago, so now Redberry was the new medicine cat.

She hissed as she walked away towards the warriors' den.
She let out a sigh. She felt bad for being so angry at the new warrior, but it just felt so unfair to her. Why did she have to suffer like this?

Darkfrost awoke when a loud groan sounded.
It seemed to her that all the other warriors awoke too, and it seemed to about to be morning.

They turned their heads to Jayleap, who seemed to be in pain, she widened her eyes.
Robinclaw padded over to his nest, "Jayleap? Are you alright?"
There was no reply, just another groan.

"Someone get Adderberry!" Darkfrost called.
"On it!" Cloudspots nodded and rushed out of the den and climbed down.

Darkfrost turned her head back to Jayleap. It seemed to look like Jayleap was not fully conscious.

Adderberry stepped inside with Cloudspots despite being a new medicine cat for only two moons, he was quite skilled, he padded over and sniffed Jayleap. "He seems to be very sick, there is an illness I haven't ever seen before, it doesn't seem to be redcough, or yellowcough."
Darkfrost hissed. "What do you mean you don't know? You're our medicine cat!"

Jayleap arched his back in a fresh spasm of agony. His body contorted again and he struggled for breath.
Darkfrost watched his heaving chest, then he went limp.
Silence went through the den.

Snowpelt let out a horrified yowl that echoed through the entire camp. "Jayleap is dead!"
Ravenspots lowered his head. "He was a good deputy. I'll go tell Redstar," he padded off.

Darkfrost let out a sigh. Things seemed so peaceful the night before, but now.. it feels like one of the Fourtrees have been rooted off now that Jayleap is dead.

Darkfrost's tail twitched in the clearing. Every cat was tense.

Redstar leaped onto the Highrock, as the sun just rose. "It is a great tragedy. Jayleap was an honorable and passionate warrior of IceClan, and may he hunt well in StarClan. He would of made an amazing leader of IceClan. But later, I shall choose a new deputy. I will speak with my senior warriors."
As Redstar leaped off and padded into his den, Ravenspots and Ivywhisker padded with him.

Making sure no cat was looking, he stalked towards the edge of the leaders' den and lifted her ears.

"Any suggestions?"
"Robinclaw?" Ivywhisker mewed.
"He is a very passionate warrior, but I don't believe his passion is in giving orders and leading cats to battle."
"Cloudspots?" Ivywhisker suggested again.
"He is a honorable and respected warrior, but, he has only been a warrior for a few moons, and he's still too busy training up his apprentice, Icepaw."

"Ravenfrost?"
"What about... Snowpelt?"

Darkfrost felt like she couldn't breath.

"She's strong, experienced, respected, had Swiftfur as her apprentice, and is good at making sure things get done." Ravenfrost purred.
There was quiet in the den, until, Redstar mewed, "Hmm... maybe you're right.. Maybe Snowpelt would be a good deputy."

Darkfrost took a step back, and raced away up to the stone tunnel, horrified at what she had just heard.

When she had reached a snowy clearing with no one around, she let out a long, mournful yowl that may of reached StarClan.
She curled in a ball, and she couldn't stop the tears.
"It's not fair..." she choked.

Anger started bubbling in her, and she stood up, glaring at the sky. "Why her?! She's a fox-heart who doesn't deserve anything but suffering!"

She hissed, anger entering her brain.
She welcomed it, letting the rage flow through her.

An image swam into Darkfrost's mind of a white cat, eyes narrowed with taunting, hissing words just to bully Darkfrost. Snowpelt. She thought bitterly.
This is all her fault.

Cloudspots words, the one who Snowpelt had taken her from, echoed in her mind.

If all they do is make you feel terrible, make them feel the same way. Push them down. Until they can't hurt you anymore...

Maybe one day, you'll MAKE her not say another insult for the rest of her life...

Darkfrost let out a purr, knowing what to do now. What her purpose was now.
I'm coming for you, Snowpelt.
