A P R I L

"Are we going to the karaoke tonight?"

"No."

"Why not?" pouted Eli, stretching her arms over the table and leaned to almost rest her face against her books. "You promise to come next time."

"And maybe next time I'll come." I assured scrolling down my phone and she frowned, still not making any attempts to drop the topic.

"If Hailey asked you you would have said yes already." Oh really? I looked up at her, seeing her blink dramatically with those long lashed of hers. "You love her more than me."

"You're embarrassing me."

"So, you do." she faked a gasp. "I knew that. I know you girls are like attatched to the hip, and each other's girl fantasy and on and on... but at least you could try as if I'm not thrid wheeling enough, and now Hailey and Marco are a thing, and you're friend-zoning me and-"

"Eli."

"Yes, baby?"

"You're embarrassing me. "

She groaned, pressing her forehead against the book page and I couldn't control a smile, letting my phone face down.

Once you get used to her, Eli wasn't that bad at all.

"Come on, aren't you supposed to be studying?"

"I've been." her voice came half muffled as she was facedown on the table. Luckily I wasn't someone to grew self-conscious or the little scene would get me all freaked out already with the glances we were gaining. She let out a harsh sighed through her nose, shifting so her chin rest on her folded arms. "For hours, for days... I just want a little break."

"At the karaoke?"

"I've been told you have a nice voice."

"Liar."

"Well, okay, but I'm dying to hear it and judge myself. And you'll get to hear me. I'm musically gifted, a harmony prodigy in the rough and alienated from the mundane talents of-"

"If I go with you, would you shut up now?"

Eli grinned, perking up immediately and her short dark hair bounced around her jawline with the sudden straightening of her posture. "Yes. You'll see, it's a nice bar-"

"I've been there." I cut her, tapping my fingers on the phone case. "Hailey brought us there the other week."

"Aha!" she pointed at me, squinting her eyes. "So you do hang out without me."
