The weekend had come to an end, and it was time to head back to work. I felt disappointed because I craved just a bit more time off. Settling into my chair, I glanced at my phone, waiting for Emma to arrive. Today, we were meeting and digging deeper into the details of Nicoló's case.

I knew if I got a little bit more information, it would help me beat the case. The judge had already determined that the proceedings would unfold over three days. On the first day, I would present my defense and share my findings with the jury. The following day, the prosecutor would have the opportunity to question him and introduce his evidence. The final day would be for the jury's decision. This process would demand considerable effort, especially since I would need to work with Nico for the next month, a challenging task given his reluctance to communicate. I found myself relying on Emma for information, and I hope she was well-informed and gave me accurate details.

I heard a knock on the door and called out for the person to enter. Nia stepped inside, her face lighting up with a smile when she saw me.

"Hey, I wanted to be sure you were ready for Mr. Santoro."

I cleared my throat and said, "Yes, please go ahead and ask Emma to come in."

She left the room, leaving me to wait for Emma's arrival. To my surprise, Nicoló entered instead. He settled into the chair across from my desk, and I couldn't help but feel confused. I hadn't expected him at all. My gaze drifted back to the door, hoping Emma would walk in at any moment.

"My assistant will not be attending today. She had other matters that I needed her to address for me. You wanted to talk, so let's talk."

I was shocked by his blatant rudeness. I wondered if this was his usual demeanor. Rising from my desk, I moved to shut the door, wanting to ensure our conversation remained private and uninterrupted. His gaze felt heavy on me, which only added to my unease. When I turned to face him, he had a smirk on his face, biting his lip in a way that was both irritating and intriguing. I returned to my desk, crossing my arms defensively, and noticed him raise an eyebrow, clearly waiting for me to break the silence. It surprised me to see even a hint of patience from him because I knew he typically lacked it. I realized I needed to get this meeting underway quickly.
