I hadn't spoken to Nico since the night he wanted me to stay over, and now we were in the courtroom for our second day of trial. I was anxious to get it over with, especially since I wasn't able to talk to him beforehand. I had no clue what he was thinking, and the uncertainty about what the attorney might ask him was nerve-wracking. We were both silent, and I was shocked to see Emma sitting with him, whispering things I couldn't hear. He might be upset with me, but I didn't know why. After all, he had said I wasn't his type and that he was having fun with me, which made me feel like I was being used. Just then, the judge entered the room, prompting us all to stand. I rose slowly, bracing myself for what was to come.

"We're back to talk about Mr. Santoro's case. I had hoped to wrap it up before the snowstorm, but we've run out of time. We'll need to postpone our decision until after the storm passes. Additionally, there are a few other cases that require my attention, so I will put this one on hold until after Christmas."

1. Just what I needed—more stress. I had hoped to wrap up this case before Christmas, but things were not going as planned. The judge allowed us to take our seats and called Mr. Sails to start. He summoned Nico to the stand, and I watched him rise and walk over. After taking his seat, he raised his hand and promised to tell the truth. Emma leaned in and placed her hand on my shoulder, sensing my nerves, which were completely justified. We hadn't talked much about the case, and I couldn't really blame him; it was my fault. If we didn't get so distracted by each other, we might have been in a better position. I usually had a handle on cases, but now I felt completely lost.

"It's great to have you with us, Mr. Santoro. To kick things off, I'd like to ask you a few questions to confirm what you shared with Miss Carter. You mentioned picking up something for your father—was that money?"

Nico tilted his head slightly and replied, "Yes."

"You also stated that you had no connection to these individuals before this package you were collecting, correct?"

"Yes, that is correct."

"So, if your father has people to run errands, why choose you?"

Nico sat up slowly, "I already told you. All of his men were busy at the time."

"Thank you very much for pointing that out to me; my mistake. So, what type of lifestyle do you live?"

"I live a pretty simple lifestyle." Nico shrugged and sat back slowly.

"Do you have a job?"

"I work for my father. He is a pretty busy man, and he's trying to pass the company down to me. So, you can say that I stay pretty occupied."

Mr. Sails shrugged, "busy? So, spending your time in strip clubs is busy?"

I jumped to my feet, calling out, "Objection! What he does in his personal life is irrelevant to this case." I turned to the judge, waiting for his response.
