Yukio was right about the next day being double- sucky. Rin didn't sleep well and Yukio clearly did t understand why she suddenly puked away from interacting with him, which just rubbed salt in the wound. Then, the old Inn Keeper told them that Shura had stayed at this same Inn and that she'd said she was going home when the old woman Inquired about her destination.

From there, they went to search for her and Rin sensed a strong presence so where that led them closer to the lake. They found Shura bleeding out in the snow in just booty shorts, a bra, and a measly excuse of a winter coat.

They brought her back to the Inn quicklynso Yukio could give her medical attention and let her rest up before they left for True Cross. But, she protested that idea.

She gave them–no, not her backstory–her ancestor's backstory. A Kunoiche named Tatsuko Kirigakure left the Iga clan to start her own sword fighting style, but the Iga didn't let people leave and have chase. She was wounded badly and stumbled upon the Hydra Demon Hachirotaro, who was sealed in Towada Lake. She fought Hachirotaro and nearly lost, but at the last moment, told him that she wasn't done living yet. Her fighting spirit captured Hachiro's heart and she made a deal with him–Tatsuko and all of her children would look just like Tatsuko and have her fighting spirit and all daughters would bear at least one child before dying at thirty. In return, he healed Tatsuko and gave her one of his own fangs as a sword–Shura's current demon blade.

Then Shura told them that Hachiro had reached out and told her that suspicious people were lurking about and asked her to look into it. Shura decided that she might as well go home a few years early to tell Hachiro that she was breaking the stupid deal and would just die alone and sad at thirty in four years and that she hadn't made any ties to people she'd regret leaving.

Of course, they all knew that the "suspicious people" was probably the Illuminati trying to get their hands on Hachirotaro. They'd been recruiting high-level demons recently.

Rin was more concerned about the part where Shura had no choice in how her life ended and just accepted it.

"You....dumb bitch!" Rin exclaimed, barely holding back from slapping some sense into the already- injured woman. "You wouldn't regret leaving us? What the hell do we mean to you?!"

"That's not what I–"

"No, it's not, but that is a sorry excuse for why you've let your life turn out this pathetic, Shura! You could've given it a meaning that you chose for yourself, but no, you drink away your sorrows all day and trained me for a bit and then you just up and left! Almost thirty years wasted on someone who didn't even bother giving a damn!" Rin snapped. Shura actually looked hurt by that, oh boy.

"Why didn't you try to fight it? Don't you have something, anything to live for?" Rin finished quietly.

Shura looked away and angry tears fell down Rin's cheeks.

"Fine. Then I'll give you something to live for, you hear me?" She decided resolutely. She got up and put her coat on, slinging Kurikara across her back.

"Uh, What are you doing?" Shura asked in confusion.

"Rin?" Yukio was similarly confused.

"I'm gonna go whoop Hachirotaro's ass and release you from that dumbass deal." Rin declared. "Speaking of, he's already here." Within seconds, a naga grabbed Shura and pulled her out of the opened Inn window. Rin followed and Yukio rushed to follow with his pistols. Should've brought a rifle for good measure, but they'd have to do.
