New Horizons

Warm, caressing hands gently rubbed your back. You winced at the first touch. But the more the familiar fingers spread the ointment on your brand, the more secure you felt.
You had your eyes closed and were sitting on the wooden chair at the dining table. Happy rays of sun fell through the window and for the first time in years you seemed to be able to see its full splendor. The dark shell that had hovered over you like a prison seemed to be gone for the first time.
Your mother hummed a song as she anointed your wound. You felt transported back to simpler days, where your mother's singing could heal the worst injuries.
But now you were wondering if you would ever heal completely.
"That's it." Your mother rubbed her hands and kissed you on your hair. "Finished! Another three or four days and this trash will be as good as gone."

You took the box with the paste in your hands. "These medicinal herbs are new to me. Where did you find them? "

"I even grow them myself now," your mother replied proudly. "Was a lot of work finding the buds as they usually don't grow in the South Blue."

You were tired.

Your gaze went to the bedroom. Your mother did not miss your concern.
"He'll recover. There will be a scar left on his chest. But I remember you saying you found stuff like this sexy."
"Yeah, Mama, I was a teen back then, and not under such circumstances!", you swore. "It will remind me every day of what he had to go through because of me."
You stepped to the window and looked outside. Your mother had been able to persuade the Heart Pirates to help her out in the fields. Shachi just got attacked by one of her sheep and was running for his life.
"First of all, I told you before you are the last to be guilty of any of this. If, I am the one, because I didn't find the courage to put an end to his terror back then." She sighed heavily. „If he loves you, he'll see it that way too. Second, it should remind you, if anything, of what this strange man was ready to do for you. Even if it eludes my imagination."
"Unfortunately I have to agree with her," you heard Amarie's voice coming through the door. "Maryet, is there any way to stop the sheep from eating the Heart Pirates? I think Lullu still needs them."
At the same moment the door to the bedroom opened.
Law leaned weakly against the door and held his chest.
"Law!" You rushed to him.
"Well, seems everything is fine now!," said your mother happily. "Are you telling the boys that dinner will be ready soon?", she pointed at Amarie.
"If they're still there," she replied, amused.
"Oh! Right!" Your mother moved to the porch. „Ernest, Dodo! Men are friends! No food!"
Amarie looked at you. "I knew I would love this woman!"
But you were busy soaking up the familiar scent of Law. You held him tight and he clung to you exhausted.
"I am so infinitely relieved."
"I'm not that easy to get down", he laughed and smelled your hair.
"I really thought I lost you." You buried your face in his chest and he winced. „Shit, sorry!"
"Now you know how I was doing", he said reproachfully. You raised your head to look at him. "Don't ever do this to me again. From now on we will take care of things together, do you understand me?"
A relieved laugh escaped you. "I promise, Captain."
