Chapter 8Sighing to herself, Keegan stretches her wings as far as she can get them, hits a wall, and folds them back around her. Although useful, wings aren't exactly helpful when trying to hide. Her 'brother', William, is a computer head, slight stalker, thief, master at using his 'powers', trickster, cunning, and yes, is normally good with girls. Keegan, on the other hand, is clumsy, naïve, hyperactive, primary and only target of Will's viscous teasing, uneasy with her ability to transform into a massive raven, and is blunt, stubborn, and down right doesn't like Will. Keegan is quite bright, but usually sees no reason as to why she should use it. Or maybe it's just the fact she was constantly up in the clouds, literally.
"Tried to protect the idiot, but NOOOO. She wanted to go the way that's was obviously dying. She ignored the giant bird in the sky. She even ignored the giant ass helicopter in the sky! Whatever, I mean it's not like I'm stuck in a hollow concrete cube or anything. That'd be mad. I'm stuck in a large rectangle that I can barely move around in. I would've thought that the great and all mighty ruler would provide better accommodations. Whatever." Keegan sets off in another soliloquy about Ratchets stupidity. It's not that Keegan didn't care about Ratchet's well being, it's just that at that moment, Keegan was jealous. Her brother got to be with another person, have actual semi intelligent interactions with a person, albeit half starved. Him and his stupid plans and his stupid ideas and his stupid big head. Keegan kicked a wall angerly, overwhelmed by her emotions, forgetting everything that she had been taught. Those lessons were to never reveal your anger. It's the simplest way for something or someone to over take you and everything you love. Keegan never asked what had caused Will to learn that lesson. She tried, but was quickly silenced with a slap to the face.
Will, on the other hand, was almost as miserable as Keegan. His plans to befriend Helni weren't going quite as well as he had hoped. He had bitten her harder than necessary on more than one occasion, and he had to watch Helni mop up her bleeding arm, rub alcohol on it to disinfect it, and cover it in a dirty rag. It was pretty. As time went on however, Will did have some minor victories. Helni slowly accumulated a steady supply of food and warmth (both she and Will were hesitant at first, but the threat of frostbite had quickly overruled any hesitations), and a willingness to get up and walk around and hunt in the woods. Those days were fun, but boring until she came back a few hours later. Will quickly learned that not eating until Helni had was hard, especially if it was a rabbit. Those days were challenging, but usually Helni would give him extra. Extra cuddles were quickly induced for chunks rabbit legs and other body parts. Helni didn't eat certain and was willing to give up some of the meat for her (mostly) obiedent companion.
Helni once again started to unfurl the rope ladder down to the snow covered ground. Making sure she had water, a jacket, and her guns and extra ammo she joined up with the german shepard waiting patiently at the edge of the woods. As she approached the dog, she made a clicking noise with her tongue and Will stood up, shaking off the thin layer of snow on his fur. Scratching him behind the ears, she began her streck into the woods, Will following behind her.
Dario, still in pain from his injuries, was abruptly awoken by Ratchet, his partner for the time being. "You need a splint for your leg," Ratchet remarked as he groaned from the pain in his body, "but I don't know that I have the materials for it. I've got some sticks and rope. Sorry if it gets uncomfortable." As Ratchet slowly manuvered his legs to that she could tie a splint around them, he became aware of how young and innocent she seemed. Done tying the splint, she helped Dario stand, albeit harder than due to the snow accumulating around the two. "Thanks." Dario shifted his weight onto his other leg, removing himself from Ratchet. He was aware of her limp as she walked away, her weaponless bag filled with little to no supplies. Dario knew that he was added weight for her, that he would just take up more of her already depleated rations. She was small and didn't need much, but he would need more, he was taller and used to more food. He would have to sacrifice some for her. That was something that he couldn't compromise.
