Orchid Blaze - A STAR WARS Story

Prologue

At first, there was silence. 

Then, the sound of glass shattering and his scream caused my heart to leap.

I knew it was him.

And then there was nothing. I felt nothing.

At first, I showed these...powers; manifestations of the Peletokan. They told me I was gifted, special. But it was not what my parents wanted for me. They wanted companionship for me, and I grew to want that for myself. It did not change the duties and responsibilities that were expected of us; to be brave and to live with honour, to be dedicated to our duties; to work hard and show diligence, the protection of the family and to most importantly, to display the love of the Herd. This was the most important.

Many years passed, and my gift died with me. Or so I thought.

They came to Harunn Kal. They told me he was gifted; special. He could do things that even I could not do at his age. His father was proud and wanted him to serve with the highest honour possible. I bit my tongue, not to raise the ire of my husband. There had been many words concerning this new venture, but the elder's words rung true, one of us had to leave to protect our home, from beyond the borders. They sought to send the strongest of our tribe. My son offered himself, to take on this honour, but they refused; he was too old. They showed interest to my youngest; the heart of our family; they said the Peletokan was strong within him. He was only a child.

My husband sought to speak with him in private. He did not tell me about they had discussed. We fought and fought until there was little strength left. The Fever season had arrived and I was in the jungles, tending to the wounds of those infected by the fever wasps.

I arrived back, greeted by my husband, and my eldest...

My youngest was nowhere to be seen.

The men had returned...two days earlier than scheduled, from when they wanted to hear our answer.

They took him.

My husband placed the Herd, above everything else.
