Have a wonderful day. I love you.

Draco looked up at the Gryffindor table during breakfast that Wednesday. Harry looked around before meeting his eyes and giving a small smile.

But Draco didn't return it. Instead, he put the note in his pocket and rubbed it. It might be the last time he received a note from Harry as they were boyfriends, if ever again.

Harry must've sensed that Draco had been shaken throughout classes on Tuesday. It wasn't unlike Harry to send random notes like that, but he often didn't write down I love you for safety reasons (and well, just because Draco never verbally returned it, nor had he written it down). Maybe because his own soul could sense something was wrong.

Harry had caught Draco the day after after Snape's demonstration. He pulled Draco into their usual broom closet before potions and he'd asked if he felt anything weird, to which Draco lied and said no. When Harry told his story about watching the sunset and the Rictusempra, Draco threw it off as, "It probably was some First Year... must've missed and realized they hit you so they hid before you could catch them. Can't say I haven't done that a few times in my life."

"Right, yeah. Just the hair pulling was odd, too."

"Maybe someone's inventing a new spell? First Years do crazy things."

"I guess so. Have a good class."

"You, too." Draco kissed his forehead, and hugged him tightly, thinking you're not crazy, my love. I promise.

Draco didn't plan on getting the soulmate book for another few days while he could wrap his head around what it meant to break the bond. What it meant to say goodbye forever.

But, being a proactive and horrible friend, Pansy put it in his room. Being stupid but desperate, Draco opened it.

He flipped through pages and pages, keeping his reading to a minimum, simply because it would make him excited or want to keep the bond. There was one line he saw a quick flash of that made him go back: Soulmates can heal each other through touch, specifically cuddling and hugs—Fuck. Draco didn't read the rest of it because the acute ache was too much to bear. By himself, he was devastated at the thought of breaking his soulmate bond with Harry; but the bond itself resisted and ripped at him even more, like he was being sliced by two knives instead of one.

He flipped to Chapter Twenty-Two: Breaking The Bond.

Though soulmate bonds are incredibly rare, as discussed in Chapter 1, it is possible that someone may bond with someone whom they do not want to be bonded with, or to someone who is dangerous, toxic, and overall bad for their health. Magic allows for the bond to break on its own should any of the circumstances occur, however, it is only through pure hatred felt by one or both parties.

If this is not the case, and you and your partner still want the bond to be broken, there is one spell that can do so. It is advisable to have a professional help to ensure the safety of both partners—

Fuck. That did nothing. That helped nothing. Because Harry would have to know they were soulmates for the bond to break. Or, to get to the point he would break it, he would have to make Harry hate him first, and then Draco himself would have to purely hate Harry.

Draco flipped back into the book, Chapter Two: What it Means to Have a Bond.

The bond between you is a string that is attached at your souls. This string allows the transfer of magic between the two of you. To see the physical bond, cast mate meam videre using a circular wand movement and repeating the incantation. Please note that making the bond visible can make it vulnerable. Be careful who you are around when doing this, as love bonds of this nature can be exploited with Dark Magic. There are certain dangers that come with having a soulmate bond, which will be discussed in Chapter 13.
