2: 54 AM at Boston Medical center;
“Joyce, please call Doctor Powell to Ms. Griffins- Roberts room he is not answering his pager” said the attending nurse.
“Doctor Powell to room 2013, Doctor Powell to room 2013” and closed the intercom.
“He must be busy with another patient it’s weird that he is not responding his pager, it’s the hospital policy after all”
“Thank you Joyce, and if Doctor Powell passes you let him know that I am in the patient’s room” and the attending nurse went to Ms. Griffins-Roberts room.

10 minutes later Dr. Powell arrived at room 2013.
“I am sorry Nurse M...”
“It’s Matilda Dr. Powell, Matilda Wood”
“Okay, Matilda could you tell me how the patient is doing?”
“When I was going to give her the medication she was not responding to my voice and according to the equipment her heart rate is not on the normal level.”
“Matilda, please give me the patient’s medical record.”
“Hannah Griffins-Roberts Dementia, age 67 has dementia LBD with developing brain tumor, received steroids to reduce the swelling in the brain and surgery is planned on 28th of March by Doctor Wright.” Dr. Powell was afraid of the worst but additional tests where needed before he could confirm it. After having done some additional tests, the test results indeed confirmed Dr. Powell’s presumptions.
“Matilda, could you call Ms. Griffins-Roberts family and direct it to my office”. While Matilda was going through the patients file Dr. Powell was preparing the necessary documents.

“Good morning I am Matilda Wood from Boston Medical center, I am sorry to have you call this early in the morning but am I speaking with Ms. Reanne Griffins-Hylle, Ms. Hannah Griffins- Roberts’s guardian?”
“Yes”.
“Ms. Griffins-Hylle could you stay on the line, I am going to direct you to Dr. Powell”.
After 2 minutes of irritating background music;
“Ms. Griffins-Hylle I am sorry to have you waiting, I have some matters to discuss with you regarding Ms. Griffins-Roberts. It’s a matter that I prefer to discuss in private could you come to the hospital?”
Reanne Griffins-Hylle was standing there with fear in her eyes.
“I will be there in 10 minutes”.
“Okay, Ms. Griffins-Hylle, I see you in my office then” and Dr. Powell hang up the phone. Saving people is a rewarding aspect of being a doctor but delivering the ‘death’ news to patient families was still difficult, even after 10 years of experience it was something that Dr. Powell still had difficulties to get used to.

6:10 AM Dr. Powell’s office
A soft knock on the door made Dr. Powell to leave his depressing thoughts beside.
“Come in” said Dr. Powell with a professional tone. It was Ms. Griffins- Hylle, who was entering his office.
“Good morning Ms. Griffins-Hylle, please have s seat” and he pointing to the uncomfortable seats next to his desk. While Ms. Griffins-Hylle had taken place on one of the seats, Dr. Powell made a mind note: have those seats changed.
