Izuku walked through his front door with a smile on his face. Of course, his mother was always waiting for him. She wouldn't sit until he walked through that door. Her obsessive worrying would make her old and grey, Izuku thought.
"Hi mom, sit down. I'll make us dinner today," He said, shrugging off his jacket and skipping to the kitchen. After his date with Katsuki, he was left in a good mood. He found himself hoping for a next time. Or more so, planning it in his head already. He wasn't sure if Katsuki had enjoyed it as much as he did, but he hoped that was the case. It had been so long since he felt comfortable around the boy. It was just like old times. Katsuki dragging him into trouble, and Izuku happy to be there. They wandered the streets of Musutafu until it was time to go home. Izuku loved the chaotic charm of the big city.
His mother didn't sit, she nervously played with the hem of her sweater. "How was school?" She asked, tone more filled with curiosity than worry.
Izuku opened the fridge, looking for something to cook. He wasn't the best chef. He could make basic meals he knew his mother appreciated. But he felt like doing something extra for her today. But of course, Izuku had forgotten to go shopping this week. He hissed at the empty fridge. "It was fine," He said mindlessly.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
Izuku closed the fridge. "Yes, mom. It's the same every day." He turned to face her, "Now, do you need anything from the store? I need to go pick up some quick groceries."
Inko finally sat down. She gave him those sad eyes she always did when Izuku did something wrong. "I can't believe you would lie to me, Izuku. You're better than this."
Izuku looked away. "What do you mean?"
"Where were you today?" She pulled out her phone, sad eyes locked on the screen. "I know you weren't at school. Your phone location said you were in the-"
"Wait, what?!" Izuku said, taken aback. It took him a moment to process her words. "You have a tracker in my phone?"
"How else will I know where you are?! You never send texts like we agreed." She said calmly.
Izuku tried his best to keep calm. His mother always told him anger did nothing but make the situation worse. He thought that was partially true. But sometimes anger gave you the push you need to say some things that need to be said. "Mom, you can't do that."
"I am your mother, I think I have a right to know where you are-"
"That's insane. I'm 18!" Izuku shouted. "I'm a legal adult! I can leave if I wanted to! You aren't responsible for me anymore." He didn't mean to shout. He hated the look on his mother's face when he did. She was just so sad.
"How can you say something like that to me?" She asked quietly.
Izuku sighed. "Mom-"
"You want to leave? Like your father? You want to leave me alone too?" She pressed her lips in a thin line.
Izuku took a step back to breathe. "Why do you always bring him up? You need to forget about him. He ruined your life. You can't even go outside because of him."
Inko shook her head in denial. "No, he'll come back. I can't just-"
Izuku pointed at the wedding band she still wore after all these years. His father disappeared years ago, no sign he was ever here except his mother crying as she held onto his ring and the numerous family pictures on the walls. They were still up to this day. Hanging sadly on the bare pale walls knowingly. Izuku couldn't stand to look at them. "He's not coming back and you know it."
