A/N: This chapter's longer I swear- 😭

Also warning: Trials of Apollo fangirling (and possible tears) ahead. (But I was very careful not to spoil anything!)

Your P.O.V.

I grip the handlebar of my trolley tighter and run straight towards the barrier, already bracing for a crash.

A crash never comes.

I open my eyes and there's a whole new world in front of me.

There's a sleek black train with red stripes sitting on the rails, awaiting its passengers. Many families are rushing around with trunks and cages on top of their trolleys... are they all magical as well?

I glance at the clock on the wall and see that it's only 10:49 am. I'm early.

"At least I'll get a good seat," I mutter to myself.

I drop my luggage off with the rest then board the train—keeping my favourite book, The Trials of Apollo: The Burning Maze with me in case I get stuck in a compartment with boys. Blech.

Almost none of the compartments are full yet, two or three people in each, but I pass them all by. I'm not in the mood to socialize right now.

I keeping walking until I'm somewhere in the middle of the train when I see a compartment with only one passenger.

She's a girl, my age, with bushy brown hair and slightly bucked teeth. She's got her nose in a book called Hogwarts: A History and doesn't even notice when I open the door.

"Excuse me," I say shyly. "May I sit with you?"

The girl opens her mouth to say something before she even looks up but when she does, she pauses and studies me. I see her glance at my book and she smiles.

"Of course." I smile and sit down across from the girl. "You know, you're the only one on this train who hasn't made fun of me for reading."

"What's wrong with reading?" I ask.

"That's what I say every time," she sighs.

"No one ever gets it," I continue.

"They always say I'm odd," my companion adds. "If you ask me—"

"—they're just jealous I'm smarter," we say in unison. We both laugh.

"I'm (y/n)... Roberts," I say.

"Hermione Granger." Hermione studies me again. She seems to do that a lot. "Why don't you know your last name?"

The question catches me off guard. She's sharp, this one.

"What do you mean? I know my last name. It's Roberts," I state.

"Yes, but a moment ago you introduced yourself as (y/n) and added 'Roberts' on a second later. Almost like the name is a new concept," she reasons. I like her. "Why?"

"You don't miss a thing, do you? I only found out two days ago what my last name is. I'm an orphan."

"I'm so sorry!" Hermione exclaims.

"Don't be. I never knew my parents. They died in a car crash when I was a year old."

"Oh, (y/n), that's terrible!"

"Really, it's fine. I mean, can't miss what you've never had, right?" I give her a small smile and she returns it.

"I guess."

A few minutes later, the train starts moving. Hermione and I change into our robes and then read silently for a while.

"No!" I exclaim suddenly as I read about one of my favourite characters dying even though I knew it was going to happen. It's not like this is my first time reading it.
