Yoohyeon only wanted three things in life: power, money, and love,
The first, power, came easy. Growing up in a noble household gave her good access to the royal castle. Then, she befriended the pre-teen princess, JiU, and they were close all the way into their twenties. JiU, nearing her ascent to the throne, presented Yoohyeon with the highest honor: The Captain of the Guard.
Next came riches. Being Captain of the Guard had many privileges, in which quite a few had to do with money. She could pretty much get anything she needed with her salary. Besides, JiU was sweet enough to get her gifts from time to time.
Oh, JiU, you would frown upon me if you were alive to see me now. Would you have bought me pearls had you know what was going to happen?
But then there was the third - love. Love, sweet love, had evaded Yoohyeon for most of her life. Her parents were too busy with their own duties to the crown. They weren't able to spare a bit of affection for their dear child. Her friends did give her attention from time to time, but it wasn't what she desired.
Mother, Father, I've achieved what you always wanted for me. Are you proud of how I gained everything? I did just as you said- I gave up everything to win a promise of something back.
Everything changed when Yoohyeon met you for the first time.
Would you love me if you knew what I had done? Who am I kidding, they've probably already told you by now.
My heart longs for your presence by my side, and I will stop at nothing to ensure that you are there one day.
Yoohyeon's heart stopped when she saw you for the first time. You were admiring the flowers in the royal garden with an elegance that Yoohyeon could only dream of having. She wanted to approach you, but something stopped her. She, instead, watched from afar as you greeted her dear friend, JiU.
Yoohyeon's heart broke for the first time when she found out that you were betrothed to JiU.
They all warned me. Your friends told me you weren't available, and JiU's friends told me to stay away.
...But when did I ever listen to them? Danger was an element that did not phase me. I was not scared to get my hands a little dirty if it meant that the reward was you and your love.
Yoohyeon's love for you only grew as the years went on. She longed to hold you, to be yours. But she could only watch as you fell deeper and deeper for the princess.
My love grew too vast, too fast. I had to do something about it. Was hurting all of those people worth it? Murdering my own friend and assisting in the deaths of a few more innocent people is a high price to pay.
Love makes the sacrifice all worth it because Y/N is worth the sacrifice of my morals.
And now Yoohyeon is here, approaching the newly abandoned throne. She was sure that you were off plotting her demise with a couple of your pesky friends.
You'll see how much you mean to me, Y/N. I won't let them take you away from me.
As Yoohyeon sat down on her throne, a plume of black smoke erupted behind her.
This power is maddening, but it's worth it if I get to be with you. I'll learn to control it one day.
"Guards!" Yoohyeon yells.
A group of armored guards stormed into the throne room. With their eyes clouded with magic, Yoohyeon had full control of their every move.
"Find Y/N, and bring them to me." She commands.
They all bow simultaneously before exiting the room.
I will have you, Y/N, if it's the last thing that I do.
