Even as I try to grasp the ends of the dream

"Y/N, I'm going to need you to repeat yourself. I don't think I heard you right." Dami admits softly as you take a seat next to her in the castle library.

"I'm serious, Dami. She asked me to marry her. Look!" You point at the ring on your left ring finger.

"Wait, you said yes? Why did you say yes?" A flicker of anger resides in Dami's voice.

"What else was I supposed to say?" You ask exasperatedly.

"No?" Dami replies, and you give her a light smack on her shoulder.

"Thanks, genius." You grumble softly as you stare at the ring on your finger.

It is quite pretty and mesmerizing, but I cannot say the same about the person who gave it to me.

"Seriously, Y/N, why did you say yes?" Dami rubs the impact zone of your punch.

"Because I owe it to the people that live here. Have you seen them? They look so scared! I cannot allow this to continue under Yoohyeon's rule. Maybe if I'm there, things will changed..." You trail off towards the end of your statement.

"Did you think about, I don't know, not doing that? There are a lot of other solutions to solve the problems that we are facing." Dami closes the book in front of her.

"Wow, you're really on a roll today," You say with sarcasm, "and why do you care so much? It's just a wedding."

"I..." A light blush rests on Dami's cheeks.

You laugh softly before poking Dami's side.

"What? Is there something you'd like to tell me?" You tease.

Teasing is fun when you're not on the other end of it.

"Yeah, there is." A serious tone takes over the conversation, and you gaze at Dami.

Her eyes give you a once-over before returning your eye contact.

"I... I'm in love with you." The intelligent and stern edge that usually resides in Dami's voice is completely gone; instead, a more vulnerable and softer sound graces your ears.

Her breath slows as her eyes scan your face for any sign of an answer.

The blush on your face is prominent as a smile finally settles on your face.

She's been there for me through everything. Dami has been my rock since we were kids. I've never felt like that for her before, but for the past few weeks...

...She's all that I've been able to think about. I don't know if it's love quite yet, but I'm interested in pursuing her like that.

"I feel the same." You mumble shyly as your hand slips into hers.

Dami squeezes your hand as a big smile lights up her face.

"Hey, don't get too ahead of yourself. I want to take things slow, you know." You fake pout.

"Of course. I'll wait for you as long as you need me to." Dami takes your hand and carefully examines your fingers.

She plucks the engagement ring off of your finger, and you gasp in realize.

"Ah, you're jealous~" You giggle softly.

"Hmph." Dami rolls her eyes before placing the ring into a spare pocket of hers.

"I'm going to need that, Dami," You say, "what if she walks in that this very moment?"
