Twist of Fate Part 1

Author’s POV

It’s getting close to Massie’s shift to end but Joon still had a meeting to attend so he texted her that he couldn’t pick her up. Few hours passed but he hasn’t received any message from the other if she got home already so he grew worried. Suddenly, his phone rang and his wife’s caller ID appeared on the screen.

“Hello?” but an unfamiliar voice came from the other line. He checked if it’s really Massie’s number and it is.

“Hmm hello? Who’s this?” Joon hesitated asked.

The next words of the stranger made Joon’s world to fall apart. He dropped his hand as it started to quiver. Without any second thoughts, he flew down the basement and dashed in the speed of light inside his car.

“Hon, stay strong okay? Please, you have to wait for me.” He kept on mumbling to himself.

Joon’s POV

As soon as I got to the hospital, I immediately inquired for my wife’s room. And soon enough, I finally found it and dashed inside. My knees grew weaker upon seeing Massie lying on the hospital bed with a lot of apparatuses connected to her. I started shuddering as I touched my wife’s face with my one hand and the other one held her hand.

“I-I’m sorry. It’s all m-my f-fault.” is all I can say as I was chocked in tears.

Suddenly, I heard someone opened the door; it’s the doctor. What the doctor said truly broke my heart into pieces. I gripped Massie’s hand even tighter while holding in my tears. After explaining everything into details, the doctor left the room already. I can feel my heart pounding loudly inside me, wanting to escape. The only sounds that can be heard inside the four walls of the room were the beeping of an apparatus that indicates Massie’s still breathing, and my own weeping in despair. My wife is in comatose and they didn’t have an idea when she will be awake.

I pulled a chair over the bedside and kissed Massie’s hand with sobs of fear.

“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.” these words repeatedly coming out of my mouth. I can’t think straight and still blaming myself for not taking good care of my wife. I took a deep breath and pulled out my phone from my pocket and started dialling for someone.

“Hello Joon?”

“Mom…” it took several seconds before I managed to speak again. “I’m sorry.”
