I shuddered. How long was that trial? How long was that execution? How long did we have to stand there and watch Kaede claw at her throat and try to free herself while the rope she was attached to acted like a puppet string, playing with her like a toy, dragging her from key to key. It seemed so brutal- so gruesome- so... Unreal. I replayed every word that was said in that trial, I replayed every moment of Kaede's execution, I replayed all of it until I felt I could understand even part of the events that occurred... Then I played it some more...
I walked aimlessly down the corridors and seemingly abandoned rooms of this hellhole we were trapped in. I got so lost in thought that I ran into someone else.
Thud!
They hit the ground with a slight wince, obviously startled but not willing to show any sort of pain or surprise.
"Oh! I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was-" I looked at the fallen person and saw that it was no other than Kokichi Ouma.
"Hey! Watch where you're going, detective. I thought Kaito was supposed to be the spaceman." He stood up promptly and placed his hands behind his head in an almost carefree pose.
"Ah, I'm sorry Kokichi, I-"
"You'd better be sorry! If you aren't then I can call my goonies over here to beat you into a bloody pulp in no time!" He said with almost too much pride in his voice.
"Y-your goonies?" I stared at him in disbelief. Although, he was the ultimate supreme leader, so could I really doubt him? But, if he could really call his goonies over at any time, then that would mean that he could've gotten all of us out of here at any point in time... Right?
"Don't worry, Shuichi. I'll let you off the hook if you play a little game with me!" Kokichi said, pressing one of his fingers against his cheek.
"A-a game?"
"That's right, Sherlock Holmes, a game!"
"Uhm- May I ask, what game?" I nervously placed my hand at the back of my neck.
"Hmm... Oh! Let's play hide n' seek! That should be easy enough for an airhead like you, neeheehee!" He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the library.
Kokichi led me to the library downstairs. I hesitantly went in, remembering the horrors that had happened in there. Rantaro's dead body, the stench of blood filling the air, and a sudden suspicion towards our fellow classmates. Then... The girl I thought I could trust killed a man, and we watched her get strung up like a Christmas light before being crushed under a giant piano lid.
"Alright! We're here, Shuichi!" Kokichi said in a singsongy voice.
"Uhm, who's hiding first?" I asked.
"Me! Duh, everyone knows that the higher-ups always hide first!" Kokichi twirled a small piece of his hair nonchalantly.
"Kokichi, I don't think that's true."
"You calling me a liar, emo boy?" Kokichi poked my chest(I suppose he was trying to be threatening, although it came off as cute considering how small his hands were and how light the poke was).
"No, of course not, I would never insult a higher-up!" I said playfully.
"Hmph! Good! Now bow before me, peasant!" Kokichi demanded with a childish tone.
I hesitantly followed his orders, there was no one else around so it couldn't hurt my reputation but I still felt embarrassed to be taking orders from someone who acted so immature.
"Ha! I didn't think you'd actually do it! You really are a pushover, aren't you, emo boy?" Kokichi pulled me up by my shirt sleeve. He was surprisingly strong for someone his size.
"Now, you know how to play hide and seek, or do I have to explain that to you?" Kokichi said, his intent was probably to belittle me but with his voice it just came off as an attempt at being playful.
"I know how. The seeker counts and the hider hides, as soon as the seeker finishes counting they look for the hider."
        "Great! So you aren't as thick-skulled as I thought, you're really surpassing my expectations for you, Shuichi." He smiled and cocked his head slightly to the side.
