Lily was sitting on a bench.
It was a strange bench, with rotten wood eaten by moths. But she loved this bench, because it was on this bench that she had her first kiss. It was perfectly placed to always have the shadow of the tree behind it on one side, and the children's play area was placed in front, but too far away to be really disturbed by the children's cries. The warm air of mid-September made the hair of the young girl float in the air.
Lily loved this bench. And she really needed it today. Her blanket over her shoulders, she swayed her legs absently, occasionally stuffing an Oreo into her mouth. Her backpack was on the floor next to her, her dress rolled up over her black boots.
She glanced quickly at her phone, reread her conversation.
Lily
Hey, can you come to the park? I am waiting for you on the bench.Elena
Yeah sure, I'll be there as soon as I finish training
Is something wrong?Lily
It is to be determined. She put her phone down next to her, turned to look into the distance, distractedly watching the children running around the playground. She ate another Oreo.
A movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention. She turned her head to see Elena walking towards her, a hanse of her bag over her shoulder, her ponytail swinging behind her back. As every time she saw her, Lily felt her heart have a little acceleration, as well as a strange pressure that sometimes made her want to laugh. She called this feeling 'love'.
"Hi," Elena greeted her.
"Hey," Lily replied as the girl leaned over to place a quick kiss on her lips.
Elena sat down next to her, placing her backpack on the floor. Lily could see her baby's hair which was stuck to her forehead by the shower water, and she could smell her cherry blossom shower gel. Lily had always liked her smell, a mixture of flower, sweat and mint chewing gum.
Elena regarded her in silence.
"You're wearing your wedding dress, you're carrying your comfort blanket with you and you seem a little overwhelmed. What do you need me to do?"
Lily swayed from side to side as she watched a small bird fly off a branch. A tit, no doubt.
"I don't need you to do anything, but I would really like you to hold my hand."
Elena found her hand under the blanket and slipped hers into her palm, interlocking their fingers. Lily always liked to notice how well their two hands fit together. In fact, all of their bodies complemented each other perfectly. Elena was taller than her, and that made her feel protected when she wrapped her arms around her.
"Okay," Elena said softly after a few minutes. "You wanna tell me what's wrong?"
Lily winced. She wasn't sure it was wrong and it made her confused about Elena's question.
"I'm sorry," Elena resumed. "You wanna tell me what's on your mind?"
"I'm pregnant."
Elena's hand froze in hers, Lily continued to rock her legs, her feet brushing the gravel floor. Elena blinked, her face paler than usual.
"Okay, did you take a test or something ...?"
"I took five. Wanna see them?"
She withdrew her hand from Elena's, leaned over her bag, unzipped the zipper, and took out the five plastic sticks to hand them to Elena.
"This one is supposed to be the best," she added, pointing to one of the sticks, which clearly said 'pregnant'.
Elena examined them one after the other, leaning over the sticks without a word. Lily was looking over her shoulder, her cheek a few millimeters from her shoulder.
Finally, Elena moved away from the tests, which she seemed reluctant to give to Lily. Her face was still too pale.
Lily bent down to grab her Oreos, pulled out a few from the bundle and held them in front of her girlfriend's mouth, pulling her out of her torpor.
"I understand that you are upset and that you need to think, but I'm scared that you are going to pass out. I need you to eat and drink something. I'm afraid I drank most of the blueberries juice, but I know you have your water bottle in your bag. "
Elena obeyed her wordlessly, painfully swallowing everything Lily handed her and taking big sips from her water bottle, which she was taking for practice.
"You are strangely calm," Elena remarked.
"I have you."
Elena smirked as Lily put the pregnancy tests back in her bag before taking her hand again. She leaned against the back of the bench with a sigh.
"What are you gonna do?"
"I need to make an appointment to the planned parenthood."
"You want me to do it?"
"Yes. That would be really kind. Thank you," Lily said, turning to her.
Elena ran a hand over her face.
"How did this happen? We used a condom every time ..."
"Actually, I'm not really sure about that time in your car, "Lily recalled.
"Oh shit, Lily, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," the girl replied with a smile. "It was a good time."
Elena chuckled in spite of herself. She squeezed Lily's hand.
"What are we gonna do?" She whispered.
"We'll keep our cool," Lily replied. "We're going to stay calm until we have all the information."
Elena smirked, placed a kiss on her temple.
"I'm with you. Whatever happens, whatever you decide, I'm with you forever. Okay?"
"Okay."
