I wake up to the sound of my alarm going off. I roll to my side and press the snooze button on my phone. I have to get up and go open the bar. I have been having to do that recently since our boss is on vacation and only trusts me to take care of the place.

Sometimes I miss California when I didn't have to work to make money because I lived with my parents, but I needed to getaway. I needed to leave because I felt trapped, and I cared little for the family business.

My brother always was the one that wanted to be a part of all of it, and I just never did. I don't know much about our family business, but I know enough to know that we are involved in some shady shit, and I didn't want to be a part of all that.

So that's when I decided to move here, to New York. A don't get me wrong, I love it here, but sometimes I just miss home.

I finally decided to get up after just being in my bed, trapped in my thoughts for God knows how long. I walk into the bathroom to take a quick shower and get ready.

I do very light makeup because I could care less about how I look. I put on some mascara and some chapstick and call it a day. I put my hair up in a messy bun because I hate walking around with wet hair.

I walk over to my closet to get dressed. I just decided to wear a black simple v neck t-shirt and some dark blue skinny jeans with my black and white low-top converse.

I look at the time and I realize I am running late.

"Shit, how do I manage to always be late," I mumble to myself while I grab my phone and put it in my purse and leave my apartment.

My parents bought me this apartment because they wanted to help out a little even though they weren't very fond of the idea of me leaving them, but I'm 23 years old. It was time for me to be on my own.

But I am very grateful for this apartment. It is bigger than the average apartment here in New York. It is a two-story apartment and is decorated with lots of whites and blacks and has many expensive decorations that were picked by my parents.

I finally make it to the club, and I start by turning on all the lights and wiping the counter of the bar.

"You were late again, so I decided to just walk to the coffee shop down the street and get us some coffee," Julia says while walking over to me and handing me my coffee.

Julia is my best friend since forever. She used to live in California with me, but after we graduated college, she moved down here because it was always her dream. She Is part of the reason I choose to come here to New York. She said that she loved it down here and to be honest, I just missed her and agreed to move here.

"I know I'm sorry. I don't even know how I was late again," I explain.

Julia laughs while taking a sip of her coffee.

"Thank you," I say while taking a sip of mine. God knows I'm going to need the energy from this.

It's Saturday, so that means it's going to be a really busy night.

~~~
Time is surprisingly going by pretty fast, which I'm so thankful for. It's around 10 pm and it's getting busy, so I leave the bar and start serving tables. I enjoy serving tables more because it's not as much stress, but the bar can be fun sometimes.
