8 - A Little Crush

The night at The Palace wasn't as crazy as the bodyguards assumed it was going to be with their assigned celebrities. Instead, it went by pretty fast.

Luke still had his precious redhead by his side while Ashton stuck to himself. Well he was stuck to himself if you didn't count Luke, the redhead, Michael, and Calum.

Of course Michael and Calum were with the other two the whole time. If they didn't stick with their clients then chaos could easily erupt within a span of seconds.

When the celebrities finally wanted to call it quits for the night, the group of five ventured into the limo and first stopped at Luke's house where he slyly invited the redhead into. And—of course—she eagerly agreed.

"Mhm no." Luke hummed out when he wrapped his arm over the redhead's shoulders, glancing into the limo where Calum was starting to exit from, "I pulled some strings and you're Ashton's bodyguard now."

Calum quirked his eyebrow in confusion, glancing towards Michael questionably. The blonde bodyguard looked just as confused as Calum was.

"And which strings did you pull for this to happen?" Calum asked, not knowing if he should believe Luke or not.

"Just made a couple calls." Luke shrugged nonchalantly, "Michael's mine."

Calum sighed and shook his head slightly, venturing back into the limo. He looked at Michael and said, "I guess you're responsible for Hemmings now."

"Got it." Michael hummed before making his way out of the limo, closing the door behind him and watching Ashton and Calum go on their way.

—•••—

"That was a little weird...wasn't it?" Ashton asked Calum once they made it to his large, luxurious home.

"I doubt Hemmings is telling the truth. I'm probably still assigned to him."

"Why did you let Michael go with him then?"

"It wasn't because it let Michael go with Luke. It was so I could go with you."

Ashton paused where he stood, feeling his stomach erupt with butterflies, his heart flutter, and his palms start to sweat. He turned around to look at Calum, seeing the bodyguard already looking at him.

"...Really?" Ashton asked nervously.

"Hemmings is a nightmare." Calum said briefly, making Ashton's heart sink, "You seem...quieter."

"Oh..." Ashton said, turning back around in order to head up the stairs, "Luke can be pretty loud sometimes."

"Are you heading to bed, Mr. Irwin?"

Ashton paused once again while he was on the third step. He turned around to see Calum now peering up at him from the bottom of the stairs.

Ashton nodded, "It's getting late."

"Have a good night then." Calum nodded, "Should I take any empty room I find?"

"Yeah! Oh yeah." Ashton panicked, "Take any room you want. Sorry, do you want me to show you around?"

"No, it's fine. I'm sure I can manage myself."

"Okay." Ashton nodded awkwardly, "Sorry."

"For?"

"Um..." Ashton's eyes widened, "I don't know?"

Calum chuckled slightly, making Ashton's heart start to race once again.

Ashton understood he had a little crush and he could be imagining it, but he swore his eyes met Calum's and that they lingered onto one another.

The only thing Ashton could notice were the dark brown to Calum's eyes and his deep dimples that were displayed on his soft-looking cheeks due to his slowly fading grin.

Calum was such a beautiful man. Ashton was already consumed by him.

A soft sound cut Ashton out of his thoughts. It took the celebrity a few seconds to realize it was Calum clearing his throat, no longer engaged in the intense eye contact.

"Um..." Ashton started awkwardly again, "Yeah, I'm going to bed."

Calum only nodded silently as his response.

"Goodnight." Ashton tried again, but he was too flustered to wait there facing him and watching him. So he turned around and didn't stop his journey up, even when he heard Calum said goodnight back to him.

Ashton made his way into his room quickly, basically slamming his door as soon as he was inside.

"Fuck." Ashton huffed quietly, bringing his hand up his chest to feel his rapidly beating heart. He quickly took his phone out and started texting Luke.

To Luke: Wtf

To Luke: I'm so stupid

To Luke: And embarrassing

To Luke: Calum hates me

To Luke: Why is he so hot

To Luke: And why aren't you answering me

To Luke: You know what I don't even wanna know

To Luke: I do want to know if you actually "pulled some strings" though

To Luke: So did you??

To Luke: I doubt it

To Luke: You lied just to have Michael at your house for the night huh

To Luke: Which is dumb by the way

To Luke: Why are you going to have the guy you like who doesn't like you back because you're a player be at your house when you have a random chick over??

To Luke: You don't think things through bro

To Luke: But anyways I'm going to bed

To Luke: Goodnight love ya :\

Ashton put his phone away and got undressed, leaving himself just in a pair of boxers for the night.

He switched the lights off and laid down, staring at the dark ceiling with thoughts exploding throughout his mind.

The most prevalent thought was revolving around Calum and the fact that he was in his house.

It oddly made him feel safe. Even though he barely knew Calum, Ashton enjoyed his calmness and quietness. It matched with his own and it didn't make him feel chaotic like Luke sometimes made him feel.

Calum was Ashton's peaceful, calming escape.
