welcome to chapter 6

Previously:

She looked down at her palms and wondered what they would look like once they were covered in midnight blood.

Now:

Jacklyn sighed and flopped down on her bed. What a day that had been. Her eyes roamed the worn wooden ceiling, noticing slashes of knives and axes from pranks and fights. The quickly disappearing light of the sun shone through the open door, an unwelcome visitor with no way of knocking. She thought back to the harsh yellow light of the Phlegethon,  halting at the doorframe of her mother's palace. The light never reached there. But enough about her mother. She didn't deserve that kind of attention.

You love me.

No, I don't, mother. Fuck you.

Ignoring any further anger, she shut her eyes against the whirlwind of pain, somehow still being encompassed in wave upon wave of despair. Her ears stung with the screech of a violin, her fingers itching to press down on a metal string, to hurt and harden, for her shoulders welcomed the aching feeling of playing for hour upon hour. Blinking away burning tears for the first time that she could remember, she thought back to her life.

How horrible that had been. She would have to go back, to fix it so Nyx could never subject this to anyone ever again.

Nyx. What a horrible name. Fitting for a horrible being. Jacklyn frowned, eyes still tightly shut. She took a breath, struggling to inhale the clean air. A cold patch on her arm let her know that someone was there, and she blinked slowly to reveal the soulless green eyes of Percy Jackson. Empty as they were, Jacklyn could see the thin veil of fake humor covering the void in his heart. He smiled softly, seeming like the perfect big brother to the untrained eye. All Jacklyn saw was a ruthless warrior, one who didn't know or accept the word mercy. Nevertheless, she smiled back and welcomed him into the cabin. He sat down on the bed in front of hers, sitting somewhat awkwardly as he stared down at the floor. Jacklyn chuckled.

"Are you scared of me? I don't bite. Well, not normally." Percy laughed quietly.

"I'm sure you don't. I'm just a little nervous about your accommodations. Do you like it here?" Jacklyn nodded.

"Oh, yes. It's nice. It's very different, but not in a bad way." They stared at each other. Jacklyn cleared her throat.

"I suppose you're here to ask some questions." She muttered. Her mood quickly worsened, feeling her brows furrow together as a pre-determined glare settled in its usual position on her face. Percy pursed his lips and nodded.

"Yep. By order of Chiron, I have to. You can also go back to the Big House and have him ask you himself, but he thought it would be more comfortable if I did it." Jacklyn nodded. She remembered seeing him run through her mother's palace, blood and grime adorning his features. That seemed like the day before. But it would take a demigod weeks, possibly months, to go through Tartarus, and she was sure that Nyx's house was not that close to the end of Tartarus.

"One question for me, though. How are you back here, if I saw you running through my m- the house of Nyx when Nico found me?" She asked slowly. Percy raised his eyebrows.

"What do you mean how? You were out for a month."
